Teardrop Colony was named after the characteristic shape of the "houses" and due to its somewhat tragic background. The colony consists of 11 housing bulbs (4 of which are made of Warped materials, 6 Crimson ones and the communal bulb), a central lift which connects the three levels and many walkways to connect the individual bulbs.

Brief summary of the lore:
A large group of colonists and explorers was locked in the Nether with the collapse of their unstable portal. Even though they were building a settlement anyways, they were never intended to be self-sufficient and always be connected to their people from the overworld. After some bad experiences with their usual architecture of stone structures, which constantly collapsed due to the rapid terrain movements caused by the large lava masses, a young visionary came up with the ingenious concept of a floating settlement.
The people have fully adapted to life in the nether and are capable of acquiring everything they need to survive. Most importantly, they hunt Hoglins for food, extract liquid from warped fungus trees to drink and use the fibres of both warped and twisted vines to make fabric. The chains by which the settlement is suspended are made from pure Netherite, which is why it is so rare today.
Since time passes much more slowly in the Nether, the overworld relatives of these people died out eventually, yet the nether colonists and their ancestors have survived into modern times, due to their ability to adapt to their environment.

Backstory/Lore:
Excerpt of the Chronicles of the Nukarim, 16th Day, 9th Moon, 631st Year:

At first, the rumble was low and subtle, as if from one of the far-off thunderstorms that often brewed out at sea. It gradually became louder over the course of multiple hours, and the ground started to vibrate. At that point, the villagers became worried. Soon the order was given for everyone to take refuge in the keep of Arrowhead Castle. In the early hours of morning, just before sunrise, Mount Ashpeak erupted. A great blast rent apart the mountaintop and forth came a bubbling stream of lava. Luckily, it took the path of least resistance and flowed harmlessly down the mountain’s sides, not endangering the village. It took another few hours until things had calmed down again, and by mid-morning, some of our boldest went to inspect the mountain.

Their report was astonishing; a great deal of lava had flown right into the sea and formed an immense slab of obsidian, dozens of blocks long. But the truly astonishing thing was a small depression in the obsidian, which was filled with a transparent, magenta-coloured substance, which seemed to still be boiling and swirling. Strange particles were constantly being sucked in and even stranger noises were emanating from it.

Excerpt of the Compilation of the Properties of Rocks, published 5th Moon, 811st Year:

Obsidian is a rare rock of a purple-black colour. It can be formed when water and lava meet and is extremely resistant. As has been discovered, it has some unique properties regarding dimensional rifts. It is, as of yet, the only known material to weaken the borders between the different dimensions. If one creates a ring structure out of obsidian and lights a fire in it, a rift will form in the weakened dimensional border and daring adventurers may descend into a Netherworld very different from our own.

Excerpt of the Chronicles of the Nukarim, 4th Day, 3rd Moon, 632nd Year:

After
much examination and debate of the ‘Purple Pool’, as the depression in the obsidian had been named, a first attempt was made to collect some of the mysterious substance. This substance, however, could not be scooped into a bucket, mined with a pickaxe or in some other way collected. But then we discovered the other side. A brave lad by the name of Marc Fennings fell into the purplish stuff, only to instantly vanish. We believed him dead, yet he reappeared a few hours later and told a strange, wondrous tale of another world.

11th Day, 3rd Moon, 632nd Year:

A week later, a first exploration troop was sent through. They were to briefly take note of their surroundings and immediately return. They came back half a day later, yet insisted that they had not spent more than ten minutes on the other side. It was a very puzzling affair indeed.

Part of the summary of Year 641 in the Chronicles of the Nukarim:

Gradually, over the years (as exploration trips took long, at least if experienced from the Overworld), our people have explored the Nether, was we call the strange place now. We have also discovered a way to construct ‘Nether Portals’ by arranging obsidian in a rectangle and setting fire to it. It was a rare chance indeed, that Mount Ashpeak had created such a rift naturally. We have even begun to set up a few temporary homes in the Nether.

Excerpt of Marc Fennings personal dairy:

I have spent many overworld years in the Nether now, yet it is still full of surprises and never ceases to amaze me. We have just finished our first Bastion-Fortress, so as to have a safe place from the creatures we have nicknamed Piglins. They are quarrelsome and seek to fight us on sight. Yet they cannot climb up the vertical walls of Blackstone, which our best stonemasons have erected. There are plans for many more Bastions to be built in a rough ring shape around our portal, so as to ensure that the Piglins don’t destroy it or come into our world. And there are more mysterious creatures still, which are extremely dangerous.

I woke up in the middle of my resting-period (we have allocated them so that everybody gets enough sleep, even though there is no night in this place) because of a deafening noise as if from breaking stone. As I soon discovered, the landmasses of the Nether seem to be extremely mobile, especially those that float on the endless lava oceans. The solid headland of Bloodstone (as we call the crimson-coloured rocks of this dimension), which we built our first Bastion on, had torn right down the middle, leaving a sizeable crack in our once-strong walls.

As we sadly learned over the course of the next few Moons (by the Overworld calendar, there are no celestial objects visible in the Nether; it almost seems as if we were in a cavernous underground space with a solid ceiling), Bloodstone is very brittle and does not perform well under the stress which the constant movement of the lava oceans puts on it. Multiple other Bastions or building sites also collapsed due to shifts in the terrain.

With the painful experience that our architecture is simply not suited for the Nether, and the ever-increasing amount of Piglin attacks on our people, we have to come up with something new. We have to devise a structure that will keep us safe from all the threats of the nether, but also not break under the strains of heat and constant movement. And I think I may have an answer!

Excerpt of the 219th issue of the Nether News Paper, published 1st Day, 8th Moon, 957th Year:

Only very recently, a small group of our Explorer-Reporters have discovered a bizarre settlement within the Nether dimension. It was, until now, assumed that said place was barren except for the creatures which are native to it, such as the Piglin, Hoglin or Blaze.

Yet high above a large lava ocean hangs a settlement of drop-shaped houses, suspended by chains hung from the Nether ceiling. It is a marvel of architecture and a thing of great beauty and elegance. From afar, our elite Explorers assume that most of these drop-shaped houses are constructed from crimson or warped planks. Contact has not yet been initiated, but we hope to cooperate with these strange people soon.

Notes:
  • If you, for some reason, end up in the Overworld or get lost, teleport to the build using this command:
    /execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s 875 33 132
  • I used Plotz Modeller to get the shape of the bulbs right
  • I apologise for the bad quality of the screenshots, but the Nether is a tricky place to take them...

To get around the file size being too big for PMC, you can upload the file to Mediafire and enter the download link to where it says "alternate download link". Good luck in the contest!

Quite nice concept fellow contestant.

Yeah, screenshots are darn hard to get properly in the nether. Render distance is capped. You could play with a potion of night vision.

As for the download, I guess the world file will stay to big for PMC. So use a file-hosting site like mediafire. You can paste the link you get from the file-hosting site in a special field in the edit submission page.
