"The Lighthouse"

  A nickname coined by the neighborhood of Portland. When completed, it was the tallest tower yet in the neighborhood, rising 112 meters above the street. Though at the same time, it was also the most dysfunctional. In the past, aristocratic families in Lapusia looking to make a statement about their wealth, power, and influence, were constrained by the construction technology of their time. Towers built before the steel frame were larger, and were normally a part of a greater complex, making them almost as occupiable as any other building from that time. But the Lighthouse marked the point where the balance in design shifted away from functionality and into display. Each floor provided less than 56 square meters of occupiable space. To save space, each floor was serviced by just a spiral staircase and one elevator. The only bathrooms in the entire building were located on the third floor, and were shared between all of its occupants. To save on floor space for the ground level store, the lobby was raised to the second floor, and its staircase was pushed out onto the street under the filing of a "temporary" ladder for construction.
