Ο Φάρος της Αλεξάνδρειας
The Pharos of Alexandria was a lighthouse erected by the Greek Ptolemaic Kingdom of Ancient Egypt during the rule of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (280–247 BC). Its entire height has been reported to be approximately 110 metres. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and was for many hundreds of years one of the world's tallest man-made monuments. Around 956 and 1323 AD, three earthquakes significantly devastated the lighthouse, and it became an uninhabited ruin. It was the third-longest-remaining ancient marvel (after the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and the still extant Great Pyramid of Giza), standing in part through 1480, when the Citadel of Qaitbay was erected using much of its leftover masonry.
