Today I built a working MOVING CAR in minecraft! Just to clarify, to build this you need McEdit and sethblings ChangeEntities filter. Also MCEdit is not a mod to the game, is an external editor so what you change with it will be then usable to anyone who has vanilla minecraft.

I see use in this for moving sidewalks. Do the blocks have physical properties, or do they act like minecarts?

The floating blocks themselves act as if they are ghosts, and doesn't interact with anything it seems. :)

INteresting....sounds like an excuse for an *invisible* door/walkway, if you can just go thru them by having the carts under and/or over the path entry, or you could have them open with pressure plates. (Like a curtain.) Hope this helps! :D
