After WWII Victorian Railways were struggling to keep up with locomotive timetables. with the N class locomotives they were manufacturing being put at the bottom of their priority to allow years of run down railroad infrastructure and locomotives. with the R class being built in Britain Victorian railways put out a second order of locomotives to be built by the North British locomotive company which was the N class. after delivery of the N class 10 locomotives were sold to S.A.R. of all locomotives that were built only 2 have survived(1 VR built/run and 1 S.A.R locomotive) there was a total of 33 locomotives built by Newport workshops for Victorian railways and 50 built by north British locomotive company. as well as the surviving locomotives there is also a number of boilers of the locomotives that have survived at Newport workshops on "Rotten Railroad" which is a section of stored rolling stock and locomotives that have been ageing and rotting over the years. today i have built the surviving VR built locomotive N 432 which is under the care of Australian Rail heritage society
