As of Minecraft v1.2, this elevator concept no longer works. You must have Minecraft v1.1 installed to ride it.

This elevator smashed two records. Not only is this the fastest piston elevator in Minecraft; it is also the elevator with the most functional floors. This elevator is twice as fast as the second fastest elevator. It will take you from bedrock to clouds in 6 seconds, and from clouds to bedrock in 4 seconds. Also, there has been a struggle to create an elevator which goes up & down between only 5 floors. Well, this elevator can take you up and down between 26 floors. Download and experience this engineering wonder.

  • You must be standing in-between the two stacks of pistons (shown by the black & white wool blocks on the ground) in order for the elevator to work properly. You must also step off the elevator immediately after reaching a higher floor, or else you'll be sucked back down. Why would you want to stay on the elevator after reaching your floor anyways?
  • Watch the video to understand how to use the keypad.

Keypad Maintenance Combinations:
  • 01 quickly refresh and resets the elevator shaft as a quick attempt to clear any simple jams.
  • opens the shaft for easy viewing and fixing of problems.
  • 01 refreshes the entire shaft while keeping the shaft open for inspection.
  • 24 opens a secret passage that leads to the background of the elevator.

Additional Notes

Planned Improvements:
  • Make it a multi-floor, up & down elevator with 26 floors (all of which you can go up & down from). (Completed with v1.2)
  • Connecting a compact, practical, keypad style, floor section device on every floor (Completed with v2.0)
  • Installing a smarter CPU/processor (Gold) (Completed with v3.0)
  • Adding more instant wire (speeding up floor-selection and other functions) (Completed with v3.0)
  • Making the elevator faster more reliable (in regard to jamming issue)
  • Others (see similar project)
Current Bugs:
  • Computer lag can cause the pistons to fire out of sync and create a jam. If this happens to you, enter 01 on the keypad as an attempt to clear it. You can also enter to open the shaft and try manually fixing the jam yourself. If all else fails, just delete and re-import the worldsave/schematic. This bug can only be 100% fixed by slowing down the elevator, making the elevator shorter, or running Minecraft on a super computer.
  • The going down function is slow at switching states (taking about 9 seconds, at max). Fixing this issue is my current Minecraft priority. (Fixed in 2.1)
Previous Versions:
  • All previous schematics and worldsaves can be found here.
  • See the video of the simple version (v1.0) here.
  • Thank you, Codewarrior, for MCEdit. The program is a huge help in this project.
  • Thank you, SethBling, for your 5x4x2 Instant Repeater design. This was used in a couple areas of the elevator, and allowed floor-selection to function much faster.
  • The texture pack being used in the video and screenshots is Ovo's Rustic Pack.

8 Update Logs

v4.0 : 02/10/2012 8:12:49 pmFeb 10th, 2012

  • Added roughly a three second delay for exiting the elevator. Please let me know if this still isn't enough time.
  • Added sound to delay so that the player isn't caught by surprise.
  • Made going-up/down, open-access, and error sounds slightly louder.
  • Revamped the floor-lock (Light Blue) and going-up/down select (Orange) chains. Now, there is less clutter, and the instant repeaters are actually instant.
  • The worldsave was relocated into a desert biome (again). All previous versions were removed from the worldsave. And, the bone-yard was revamped.

Finally, a piston elevator that not only lets you choose what floor to go up to, but what floor to go down. A rare find indeed.

ill show you in a pic:

i need 3 floors

the distance between the lowest and the middel floor has to be +-19 blocks,
the distance between the middle and the top floor is something like 10 blocks or something since it doenst really matter :)

the problem is that i cant get the elevator to only stop at those floors...

thanks in advance

Would you mind sending me the worldsave with the elevator installed? You can PM it to me on this site or email it to [email protected] I want to get a closer look.

How is this? www.box.com/s/jz3iy6c9t3k50q3nl2i7

For maintenance, insert a button on the bottom-right corner of the elevator doorway (first floor only).

Ah, okay. I see what you have going on here. I'll piece together the elevator so that it can take the place of the outdated elevators. Then, I'll send you the schematic so you can install it everywhere you want. How does that sound?

Hey! If it's not too late, use this schematic instead (http://www.box.com/s/qt9icbs08hccgpgn9tlt). I knew I should have tested it more before releasing. Not a big problem, though.

I uploaded a new worldsave, this time with the elevators in a different biome. This should eliminate the amount of rain/lag the worldsave was recieving.

Thanks for the suggestion! Once you get some practice in, you'll never get stuck unless your computer hickups. I'll add a button to every floor right now. I'm glad you like elevator, and that improvement!
