The man who needs perhaps the least introduction, Washington is perhaps the most recognizable figure of the American Revolution as "the father of our country." He lead the Continental Army to victory during the revolution, intending to retire from public service. He was pulled from private life to become the first United States President, and did what no national leader had done before and stepped down from power after two terms to allow American democracy to flourish.
