The original Hero of Dragon Quest I, sometimes known as Alef. Descended from the legendary hero of old, Erdrick, Alef is an intrepid young knight who dared to fight the forces of the evil Dragonlord and free Alefgard from his tyranny.
He set the standard for every "Hero" type character to come: even stats across the board, proficient with a variety of weapons and armour, and knows a little offensive and defensive magic. So great is his resolve that he faces down hordes of monsters all on his own, delves deep into dungeons with only a handful of medicinal herbs to protect him, and may have even defeated the Dragonlord while carrying his beloved princess in his arms. Now that's dedication.
