Some minor lore

Captain Rand let his eyes scan the snow horizon without aim. Strategizing was not on his mind, nor was observation. His sole concern was on the wellbeing of his platoon. Two-score of Vanguard redcoats, all armed and trained. Not enough to combat a violent and organized army of Skorthage Sword Dancers, though. It was never enough unless the King's Own were there to help. Rand wondered that, if he kept staring aimlessly, he could hold death back. It would be worth giving up a future honorable retirement, just to gaze without purpose.
The crisp crunch of boots on snow broke Rand from his trance, and he was snapped back into reality. Lieutenant Grost, a burly man with a square face and an even more harshly-shaped body, strode up beside the captain.
"The Church has sent monks to assist us in the defensive" said Grost, "I am told they are trained in battle Hymns, the ones used by the Lion branch."
"We're sent Zealots?" groaned Rand, "The King clearly does not care for the frontier."
"Don't be so picky. Anything more than the slim pickings we already have is a godsend."
"Barely. The zealots only assist in primary defense and minor healing. A second platoon and a squad of the King's Own would be a true godsend."
"Sending a Blinker or the Brute Squad would be a waste. They're needed elsewhere."
"Elsewhere be damned. If the King had a modicum of empathy, he'd have more trained."
"Aye. Be that as it may, we have something, so I implore that you work it in. Somehow. Now shut your gob, the monks are approaching."
The monks could not be more outlandish in their appearance. The clear, sky-blue tones of their church garb contrasted powerfully against the deep crimson of the Vanguard redcoats. The golden disks and trinkets hanging from their bodies reflected bright winter sunlight. They were walking targets.
"Good gods have mercy on my soul" murmured Rand despairingly as he walked to meet the monks.
One of the monks, a young woman no older than nineteen, broke from the group and stepped forward to bow to the Captain.
"Pleasure to meet you, Captain Rand. I am Daughter Lucinda, monk and disciple of the Lion branch of the Church of the Patron's Light. We have been dispatched to assist in combating the Skorthage heretics."
Rand smiled shallowly and nodded his head. "You are welcome here, monk. We're stretched thin. The reinforcement is appreciated."
The monk named Lucinda gave a curt bow and stepped past Rand, turning her face to the horizon, as Rand had minutes prior.
"Rand", said Lucinda, "You are a godless man and a hopeless liar. You care little for our help"
The captain blanched and Gorst suppressed a guffaw. His jaw defiantly, Rand readied a retort that would blister in its brutal honesty.

But Lucinda cut him off.
"But we are more than healers, captain. The Church sent four of us, all trained in Lion battle arts, and that is more than ample. The Skorthage will burn."
The other monks nodded solemnly, coldly, in agreement, and strode forward beside Lucinda, where they all turned their faces silently towards the horizon.

Hey howdy hey, there's a new skin, and posted in a record time gap of fewer than six months...which is kinda negated by the fact that this skin had been sitting unfinished for about that long. Ha.
I've been finding that using religious imagery and symbolism is something I enjoy incorporating in my work. I adore the intricacy of medieval illuminated manuscripts and tapestries. That and the decorum and garb of Buddhism is something I try to incorporate in much of what I draw when it comes to fantasy at least. I've manifested that interest in this skin, where Lucinda is wearing something akin to the prayer beads, and some arcane-looking tags and buckles with a deeper connotation to their meanings.
In other news, I've been tweaking the way I approach shading now. Instead of painting by individual pixels, I've moved onto a hybrid of swathes and pixels. It helps clean up the design and keep it from looking too monotonous.
Lemme tell ya, though, it was a pain in the butt trying to avoid banding with this skin.
Anyhoo, the palette is on the skin, as usual! Feel free to use it in your own work at your discretion :).
