Entry for the Biome Dependent Character Skin Contest.

As you might be able to guess from the title and the theme of skin. I chose the Old Growth Taiga/Giant Tree Taiga/Giant Spruce Taiga/Giant Pine Taiga/Mega Taiga/Redwood Forest/Whatever it's called seriously why does this biome have so many names lol.

Point is, I always had a bit of thing for this biome, all the way back when it was revealed in the summer of 2013. Yes, I'm that old. (I've actually been playing MC for notably longer than that but that's beside the point)

So let's get onto how the biome shaped the character. You might notice a few Nordic and Celtic influences in the design. I've always thought of this variant of taiga as notably warmer than other variants, occurring on west coasts at fairly high latitudes, about 50-60 degrees. If you're familiar with world climate, you'll know that this is where you find the oceanic zone. The biome would occur towards the cooler end of this zone. Temperatures tend to be low in the biome but aren't below freezing particularly often. Basically, it's a perpetual autumn. It's definitely not warm, so you won't see much exposed skin on the people living here. Look at this girl for example, her arms and legs are completely covered. Her clothes unsurprisingly have a forest aesthetic. The cape is pretty much entirely cosmetic but the rest is designed for warmth and around life in the chilly forest. She also wears a thicker glove on her dominant hand since she uses that for all sorts of things while the glove on the other hand is just to keep it warm. Finally, she around her head, made from various materials found in the biome and coloured with lichen from the podzol.

People in this biome eat mostly fish and wild berries. Some hunt while others prefer not to. Fishing, foraging, and hunting are all very social experiences for the inhabitants of the biome. Many stories are told about the enormous spruce and pine trees, and what secrets they are said to hold. Children are often told about spirits that lie in the trunks of the largest tree, watching over the whole forest, protecting the good and punishing the evil.
