This "Sinking Sailor" was part of the Soviet's attempt to be the first to reach the bottom of the ocean. This short-lived program resulted in several hundred failures, and as such never reached the level of fame as the space race.

This particular fellow is ready to (and probably will) die for the glory of his country. Too bad his failure will be covered up and all records of his (or her) existance will be destroyed.

Cool! The eyes look a little odd to me (no indication of whites or pupils), but I like how you have the goggles pulled up onto his forehead. It's a creative touch and works really well.
