There were many knights of the old time, but none struck fear in the hearts of his enemies as the Black Knight.
He had descended from a king from a kingdom where nobody obeyed the kings laws. He decided to leave his father and search for a new kingdom so he could get a new start. When stumbling through a dark forest he discovered a dead paladin from a kingdom he knew to be quite wealthy. He took the armor from the dead knight and put it on for protection, and to fool the enemy kingdom into thinking he was one of them. Weary after walking for days he decided to rest his legs and to bathe in a river, but he soon realized he could not take off the armor. He thought it was a tight fit, but he never thought it would be irremovable. He worried about this but then realized that a blacksmith could rescue him from his cold steel shell. After walking a little while more, he thought he had heard foot steps, he shouted and motioned in the direction he heard the noise from, quickly thinking better of it. Then out of the brush a wolf stepped out. Forgetting he was in armor he fell back, shocked, into a mud puddle. He got up and discovered the wolf sniffing his leg and he motioned for it to get away from him. He continued walking, with the wolf in tow, when he stepped into a clearing where he saw a small shack he ran toward it, hoping it belonged to a blacksmith when he reached the door he swung it open and stepped inside. It belonged to a shop keeper, who was surprisingly working there. The prince paid no mind when he heard the wolf barking from outside he asked if the man working the counter if he had anything that could help him take his armor off. The man said that he could try his hand at removing the armor and the prince pleaded with him to try. The shop keeper walked behind the prince and said that his armor was corroded and dark from something the prince didn't understand but what he did understand is that the shop keeper had gotten quiet. Suddenly the wolf jumped into the shop and attacked the shop keeper. The prince turned around and saw that the shop keeper had drawn a sword from the wall behind him. The prince looted the shack and ran off away from the clearing into a kingdom he knew was his own father's. He walked quickly through the town toward his father's palace. The town was so out of shape without him that there were no guards. When he reached the king's throne room the king asked "What is your purpose here Black Knight?" the prince, just realizing his armor was black from the mud, explained that he had come with gifts for the king and gave all but one sword and one shield from the shack he looted to his father. The king was very pleased with his gifts and and asked what the knight wanted. The prince asked only to be knighted in this kingdom and to be free to go on any quest he wished while always be able to return to the kingdom and be treated as a true knight. The king was so pleased that the knight asked for so little that he granted the knight's requests and gave him the top room in a tower so tall it reached the clouds, where he could get well rested for the deep, black, night.
