Underground Creatures Contest - Elemental - First ever pop reel!

Body made of shale, crystals growing from its body, flames that never go out... These are the strange creatures referred to simply as "Elementals" for lack of a better way to describe them. The question of exactly what they are has sparked fear and curiosity throughout the ages. The people of Pompeii saw and feared them, and attempted to destroy them when their miners discovered them deep below the mountains. The miners successfully destroyed one, leading to an enraged assault- and doom- of Pompeii by these mysterious creatures. Who or what are they? Perhaps it is better not to know.
