Looking for a dark custom sky for Minecraft Java Edition?
Tired of all these fancy-pants-ultra-4k-real skypacks?
Just want to simply have a nice-looking dark sky that fits vanilla style?
Then, Everlasting Night is a pack for you!
It changes the sky to look much darker during daytime, or even to look like the night never passes, without hiding Sun or Moon.
The stars are also there, slowly spinning full circle around the planet day after day. You may notice they became a little bigger, just like in older versions — and that's right, as both fast and slow layers were taken from real Beta 1.8 sky footage!
There are multiple skybox styles available:
[B] Pitch Black (new!) | Changes sky to be completely black all the time, with stars being slower and twice as prominent. Ideal for underground- or space-themed challenges, or minigames where the time is fixed. | Coming soon!
[C] Classic | Represents classic Minecraft daylight cycle, with day sky colored dark-blue. Nothing special, but you'll like it if you want to get a style that looks as close to vanilla as possible.
[U] Ultimate | Changed sky to a solid dark-gray colour, with stars being faster than in other packs. This style is deprecated, and will soon be replaced with Pitch Black style.
[P] Plasma | Synthwave-ish skybox, inspired by how night vision potions worked before 1.12. This is a sort of experimental style, so it might not work for everyone.
Compatibility note: Everlasting Night is fully compatible with packs that change sun/moon/clouds, but will conflict with ones that change skybox(-es) as well. DO NOT use it use with shaders, as in 90% of cases they will not work together!!

Can confirm once again, the pack DOES WORK on latest Minecraft version as long as you have Optifine compatibility mods installed. In fact, I do still play with this pack, along with French Fonts (which, surprisingly to me, does also work). If you don't have such mods installed, the pack obviously won't do anything.
What works:
1. All skyboxes (sky0, sky1...) render and transition correctly.
2. Baked-in Beta stars rotate full circle, and parallax effect between star layers is present.
What worths working on:
1. Perhaps prolong the current version up until 1.20.2, which (finally!!!) added a way to set pack formats as a range, and only add actual changes in a newer version. Although, if there won't be any breaking changes, it's prolly better to still use a single pack to cover all the versions.
2. Considering there is now a way to change the actual sky colours, hopefully it might finally fix the fog using default Minecraft colours (especially when it rains or snows -- I don't think back in a day there even was a way to do anything about this).
3. Plasma's day skybox is overly saturated to the extent of giving me eyesore (maybe I'm just getting old...), so make it dimmer and lighter.
Anyway, thank you for reading this :)
