It looks like you used microsoft paint which is why the invisable parts are black or white because it doesnt alow it you should have a white and gray checkered background i suggest either Gimp 2 or Paint.NET as they are both free and easy to download and you get the hang of it quickly i use gimp as it has brilliant brush templates which you can be creative with like in my texture pack i used the templates to help with the ores and well everything lol if you need any help just pm me or sumet

i have a doubt, i only manage to make a texture of mine work using someone's else texture zip and edit it. i made my own zip but minecraft didnt accept or gives no result

yes i have them problems thats why i started with a 16x16 that only worked but if you use gimp or paint.NET it will eliminate the black background i can provide a link if needed you will find them easy to get a hang of as they just like paint pritty much but you can do alot more

good texture, just think about the colours more, don't use the default colours that u get, adgust the main colour you want by tiny little bits in the colour adguster in whatever program ur using.
