I find it quite annoying how people will make an account just to get a cool username then never use it again. So I propose that people who are super inactive as in "last seen 3 years ago" makes their username available for others to put to actual good use. This will allow people to get more easily recognizable and easily typeable usernames. I don't know exactly the way this would be implemented but it would be a great addition to PMC. Maybe also send out an email a month before this happens to warn the person and give them a chance.

We did introduce a system which allows new members to claim usernames of registered accounts but ONLY when the account never interacted with the community in any way plus hasn't been online in 3 years. So, safe way to free up usernames.
If a user has been inactive for a long time I can understand how it can be a bit annoying if you like the name. If the person just made the account and never did anything with it and was inactive for a long time we can free up the name upon request but if the person made/uploaded/posted something then no matter how long they are inactive the name is theirs because while they might not use the site currently/anymore it wouldnt be right for us to change how people can find their work when coming from other places that person exists.
I thought of an idea for that, tho I didn't create the ticket. My idea is that once a member reached a certain level (idk what's a good level, tho), this wouldn't happen to them.
