It is currently possible to upload animated PNGs to a Submission and you can actually see them animate in the Editor upon first uploading them. But right after saving or publishing the submission they will stop being animated and just be still images of the first frame.
Here is a quick example of that:

It could be a great addition to actually have them animate upon saving them. They would be a way faster and more convenient way for showcasing a spinning animation of a model to see all sides or to showcase animated textures without having to add a YouTube video.
Also the reason why they should be APNGs instead of GIFs is because GIFs are very limited when it comes to color and tend to look very choppy and generally bad.
