We really wanted to spend some time remembering submissions on Planet Minecraft that were either the first of their kind, or stood out to us in some way. This is the first of several "PMC Remembers..." articles we will be publishing over the course of the month in celebration of our Anniversary.

We'd like to emphasize that this is by no means a complete list; it would take an eternity to include every project we loved! So we encourage you to share your favorites.

What project(s) do you remember from long ago? Which one sticks out in your mind? Please share with us in the comments, and don't forget to link and tag the creators!

Infinity City - Planetary Terraforming Project with Self-Replicating Technology

by Gheppio
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/ic-4381960/

This project is one of the most complex and one-of-a-kind submissions, and it’s almost impossible to explain in just a few paragraphs. The Infinity Project is the result of years of research and experiment in the field of
self-replicating technologies which was created by Gheppio, and are made of modular machines that have the ability to replicate themselves, forming a dynamic cluster that achieves an end goal. The target of the Infinity Project is artificial terraforming; it aims at creating an engine capable of pure creation, which can grow, reorganize the surrounding space, and generate entire cities and worlds.

PMC Remembers Projects of the Past

Capsules called
Seeds to originate and control the terraforming process, syncing all the machine's elements planet-wide. At the click of a button, the seed starts the process and a new, unique city starts to grow. Press Play on the video below to see a seed in action.

Using his technology, we hosted an official community project contest, Procedural Metropolis, which received 63 entries! The result was a grandmaster machine that generates entire cities made up of community contributions!

Gheppio built an exhibition of self-generating cities, which you can find on the official PMC server, in the Member Content wing, on the entrance of the Builds & Blogs room. You'll see two self-replicating dioramas, a photo gallery of surreal limitless worlds and you'll discover many curiosities about these machines. There is also an area dedicated to the Procedural Metropolis Contest!

If you’d like to learn more about this technology, we did an in-depth interview with Gheppio which you can read here. The interview contains behind-the-scenes photos you can't see anywhere else as well as an insight of the future plans for his self-replicating technology.

Ice Cream Truck
by Captain_JEK
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/ice-cream-truck-4339239/

Captain_JEK defined a specific style and technique of building; small but mighty! Thinking outside the block, they created watercraft, aircraft, watercraft, rail vehicles, and ground vehicles on the smallest possible scale; his biggest collection contains
232 submissions and range from steam rollers to school busses! Though these builds are small, they are highly detailed using blocks, banners, and other building material in the most clever of ways; rotated stairs become the thighs for a giraffe, a combination of a fence, planks, and buttons become the teeth of the cutter bar on a Forage harvester.

Dropper Map
By Bigre
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/advpuzz-the-dropper-2-new-levels/

Bigre created the first of its kind; a dropper map. The goal of this adventure map is to survive the fall and finish the game, without breaking any of the blocks. The map contains 16 levels and at each level, you will be left in free fall. The Map holds the most downloaded Map on Planet Minecraft, with a total of 3.1 million views and over 1.7 million downloads and counting!

Cops and Robbers
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/cops-and-robbers-classic/
By Podcrash
Written by Indraft

Podcrash is quite possibly one of the pioneers in memorable content. Their submissions, Cops, and Robbers 1-5, have been accessible since 2013 and have garnered numerous amounts of positive reactions. Their content has been paraded around the web since the first edition with YouTubers playing it at every hour, the builders perfecting their craft with each new rendition. Moreover, Cops and Robbers 5 is the third best submission on Planet Minecraft, a feat that's novel.

On a personal account, Cops and Robbers was the sole driving force in making me join. I remember playing it with my two brothers way back, getting absolutely destroyed each time I tried to escape from the cells. The way we would log in to Minecraft, open the map, and start to play a game with such a simple concept, yet such iconic gameplay. I make it a point to try and play with them every time the holidays come around. It's nostalgic.

Working for Podcrash, I can say that their work continues to be boundless. Not only have they taken a colossal undertaking with reproducing Cops and Robbers: Alcatraz to the Minecraft Marketplace, but they continue to provide support for those projects around the clock. It's safe to say they care about their userbase, their workers, and their beginnings.

All in all, Cops and Robbers is a worldwide phenomenon that continues to be played for years to come. It (afaik) remains a Planet Minecraft exclusive and continues to be one of the greatest works on the site, all the way up there with inHaze's mansion and Bigre's dropper. It's a pleasure working for them, and it's a pleasure playing a worldwide treasure. It would be a shame if their content or account wasn't included in some way.

Witchcraft and Wizardry
by The Floo Network
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/harry-potter-adventure-map-3347878/

This map is truly Magical and anything you would ever want in a fantasy RPG map. Based on the infamous Harry Potter series, Witchcraft and Wizardry feels like an entirely different game, yet you’re still in Minecraft. Its custom textures and skins, redesigned UI, and uncanny character resemblances from the series’ movie counterparts transform Minecraft into one of the best, complete, and most interactive RPGs.

You’ll attend Hogwarts, learn spells, fight enemies, play quidditch, trade in Diagon alley, and be as immersed as you’ll ever be in Harry Potter through Minecraft! You’ll complete puzzles and quests, have your very own magical wand, and be searching for loot and supplies like potions and butterbeer! You can check out video clips of some of these features here!

A Work in progress for 5 years, the Wizarding World was released less than a year ago and holds one of the top spots in the “best category”, with maps that have been on the site for 9+years. It currently has over 340,000 downloads and nearly 2 million views.

Greenfield - The Largest City in Minecraft
by THEJESTR
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/greenfield---new-life-size-city-project/

One of the oldest bust most popular maps on the site is the largest city in Minecraft, Greenfield. This was one of the first Minecraft maps that set out to aim to build such a large city! What sets this city map apart from others is its fine detail and 1:1 scale. Walking in this Los Angeles inspired city feels comparable to walking in a city in real life! Almost all of the buildings have a full interior and there are several easter eggs and areas to explore. Large industrial factories, commercial buildings, such as Minekea, construction sites, residential areas, warehouses, highways, train, and office space.

Over the course of the 9 years, the map has been continuously updated to be compatible with the most recent versions of Minecraft and just recently surpassed the 1 million download milestone!

While we’re highlighting the largest city in Minecraft, we’d like to also recognize Elysium Fire for their massive city build,
Novigrad and

Novigrad by ElysiumFire

Rigolo for their Imperial City. Unlike previously mentioned cities, Imperial city is built in all styles from the 19th century and early 20th century remains in the top 3 “best” overall maps on Planet Minecraft.

The Temple of Notch

by disco_
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/the-shrine-of-notch/

This is such an iconic build in so many ways. Firstly, it’s one of the first interactive Redstone submissions on the site. Secondly, it pays homage to the creator of Minecraft, Notch.

You must first place an offering into the "Well of Destiny" unlocking the temple doors to seek an audience with Notch. Fully Interactive Redstone Notch Idol. Notch will judge you in the temple and either bless you with vast wealth or cast you into the bowels of the earth.

What followed this submission was several more Redstone Devices by disco. After his 3rd video (Programmable Piano) went viral, Youtube invited to join the Youtube Partnership Program. This made him even more popular, drawing more and more attention to his submissions. Disco is the highest-level member on Planet Minecraft to date and has over 20,000 subscribers.

He also created one of the most popular Texture Packs on the site, oCd, which has been discontinued and not supported by the most recent versions of Minecraft, but is compatible with 1.8!

DREHMAL v2: PRIMΩRDIAL - 12k x 12k Survival/Adventure Map
by Primordial Team
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/drehmal-v2-prim-rdial-12k-x-12k-survival-adventure-map/

Terrain Submissions on Planet Minecraft come in all different shapes and sizes, but this one stands out as most Iconic not just because of its size, but also because it’s not
just terrain. This map is an entire Minecraft survival experience. It has a fully functional fast-travel system, 300+ loot-filled structures, unique weapons, custom advancements, its own resource pack, and a “Main Quest”. This map was designed with survival in mind, while also keeping things interesting with hidden secrets and weapons, lore, and small stories. Did we mention the terrain is quite spectacular, too?

We’d also like to recognize Barbarian for his amazing terrain work and terrain submissions over the years on Planet Minecraft. Barbarian is most notable for his psychedelic, extraterrestrial terrain that serves not only as fun maps to explore but also as art pieces to appreciate.

Authenticity Relocated by Barbarian

Other outstanding terrain creators we’d like to mention are Ivain, Consue, Leonex, _Killerack_. Some of our favorite submissions by them can be seen below!

Isle of Sentar - Tropical Crater Island by Ivain

Paradise Contaminated by Consue

The World for Survival by Leonex

EverbloomStudios App by _Killerack_

The Dragon
by Roman_95
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/dragon-4021741/

Three years ago, the era of organics changed when Roman submitted his first dragon build. It was the first dragon of its kind on Planet Minecraft, built at such large scale and detail! Over the years, he continued to amaze us and Minecrafters alike, with each submission being even bigger than the previous. Three-headed Dragon is perhaps one of our favorites, while Kyuubi the nine-tailed fox and Anthro Dragoness remain his top two most-viewed submissions.

In addition to making massive dragons, Roman also has a collection of Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 vehicles as well as dinosaurs!

King's Landing
By WesterosCraft
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/showcase---kings-landing-an-epic-city-1843386/

Westeroscraft’s mission is to recreate the universe depicted in the fantasy series Game of Thrones imagined by George RR Martin. 8 years ago the submitted Kings Landing, which has since received over 400,000 views and nearly 150,000 downloads. The city contains over 3000 unique buildings including all of the iconic structures illustrated in the Game of Thrones including the Dragon Pit, the Great Sept of Baelor, and the Red Keep. They were featured on Minecraft.net for their map which you can read
here!

Similarly recreating a fantasy world is ArdaCraft, whose goal is to recreate J.R.R. Tolkiens Middle-Earth in the late Third Age as it was described in the books. You can find submissions of some of the separate regions, however, the only way to see the complete world is by joining their server.

Custom Tree Repository
By lentebriesje
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/native-trees-of-europe-template-repository-1779952/

This was the first of several repositories submitted to Planet Minecraft over the years. This pack set the precedent for similar submission. Repositories and build bundles are used by other creators to add to their builds!

This tree repository contains several species of trees from different countries including Europe, North America and the Amazon.

We’d also like to note that Lentebriesje was the first to recreate earth on a 1:1500 scale which awarded them a Guinness World Record for the largest scale recreation of the earth in Minecraft in 2013! See all of their submissions here.

Other repository and build bundle creators we would like to mention include Moonti, Wet, MrWizz, Plutouthere, Lemon-Fox, Eremilion and FeH2. There are several more we’re missing, but you can check out a collection containing 107 repository and bundle submissions made by many here!

Island Beneath the Mist
By billoxiiboy
https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/island-beneath-the-mist/

Billoxiiboy has several amazing submissions but we chose this one because much like the other builds showcased in this article, this is the first of its kind. This is also the first of a three-part build titled The Paradise Series. The Paradise Series tells a tale of a mystical place that has been forgotten, then rediscovered by a group of explorers, who were eventually pushed out by an invading ccnqueror.

The series includes two other projects: Exodus from Paradise and Flight to citadel. Like the first of the series, these projects incorporate works from several PMC Custom creators.

Exodus from Paradise

Each submission includes a gorgeous cinematic tour of the land, with music composed by Aspirin60. With permission from the creators, he uses several build bundles and repositories, showcasing some of the very best of Minecraft's Genius Custom Tree & Item Creators in three beautiful maps!

So... What project(s) do you remember from long ago? Which one sticks out in your mind? Please share with us in the comments, and don't forget to link and tag the creators!

Thanks for the mention!

And yeah, that's still one of my favorite projects to date, though I'm collecting images for a large submission that surpasses it.
