Alpha Journal

Day 1:
And so a new world had been generated! I never thought that earlier versions of the game would be so magnificent, I was expecting much less. Rather quickly, I remembered what I had to do and approached the trees to get wood. However, after I got the wood, I didn’t start building. Instead, I went to look around, and found a little water puddle enclosed with a cave. Under the water, there was a layer of coal. I thought that it would be the perfect place to stay, so I started setting up there.

I spent a little bit of time thinking what this little base would look like. I didn’t want to use cobblestone, and I obviously wasn’t going to use dirt. Wooden planks are okay, but they’re better to use for flooring. Finally, I decided I was going to use logs for the side facing the outside and keep the stone walls from the inside.

While gathering wood, I noticed there was a rather large hole in the ground leading to a cave system right next to my base. I
decided that this was something to explore another day, and I went back to focusing on finishing the base.

So then the walls were done, but I still needed glass. Sadly, it was turning night, so I didn’t want to risk death. And as I blocked the walls off, the night was upon me...

Night 1:
The following night was rather uninteresting at first. I stayed inside working a bit more on the base. I created a chest and moved my furnace and crafting table to a better location. I replaced the floor surrounding the water with planks and I put some cobblestone in the furnace to make stone. Later, I used the stone to replace the mined out blocks of coal.

For about a minute, I sat there doing nothing. I was afraid to go out because of the mob sounds coming from everywhere, but sitting inside was so dull. When I finally couldn’t take it anymore, I went out to take a peek, and immediately a creeper approached. I closed the door and quickly made a sword. It was stuck in the water, just jumping there. That was the reason I
chose this area, for protection. I hit it once, and it kept coming. I had to get closer and closer to keep hitting it. It was only a part of a second away from exploding, and so I quickly hit it once more. After I killed it, I went out to grab the gunpowder. Just after I shut the door, I noticed I had dodged a spider jumping at me just by seconds. I was eager to kill it. I opened the door, hit it once. I got closer, but it damaged me through the door. Once again, I hit it and once again it damaged me. When it was finally dead, I had lost 2 hearts and it was turning day. I thought I was safe, but I wasn’t...

Day 2:
After it turned day, I quickly got out. I did not notice that there was a skeleton still alive next to my home, and it shot me a few times before it burned to death. I had lost 4 hearts, meaning I was down to only 4 more.

I noticed some cows not too far away and, forgetting that Alpha had no steak, I killed them. I may not have gotten the steak, but I did get leather. I saw more cows, and killed them all for their leather. I decided to go back to the house to do some work.

On my way back, I noticed a lot of pigs. I approached them and killed them, quickly regaining my health. One of the pigs fell down into a cave and I had to go down to get it. In the cave I found iron at the very start of it, but I was too afraid to go further down, I didn’t think I was ready. I found a nearby beach of sand so I mined the sand and got back home.

I smelted the glass and got to work on building. I managed to finish up the windows and wanted to do a bit of work on the floor as well. I noticed that nighttime was approaching, but that was no issue since I was going to stay indoors.

Night 2:
Even during the day I decided I was going to spend the night working on the interior of my small home. I did most of the floor, walls and ceiling in a relatively short period of time. After all of that was done, I decided to expand to the left side facing the door. After breaking a few blocks, I stumbled upon a cave system. I got down into it, lost some hearts but nothing too major. Looking through the cave, I was disappointed. There was nothing in it but coal and stone.

When I climbed back up, it was almost daytime. There seemed to be no mobs outside, so I quickly got out to check on the area. Not too far from my home, I saw a pig. I needed to regain my health, so I went to kill it. It did not drop anything, but I did notice an opening in the ground leading to what seemed to be a larger cave system. I mined iron from there and decided to leave the exploring for tomorrow. When I got back to my home, it was already daytime.
