Welcome to Reversion Gaming's Basic Server Tips Guide!


Today i'm going to give you a few tips to help you make your server better and more popular! Now even if this is your first time making a server that's good this guide will give you great tips on how to start a new server and if you already own a server this will tell you how to make your server more of an "easy to play" server for new players that join your server or just make it a better playing environment for everyone!


Server & Plugins


First things first, make sure you have a good server base like bukkit. The reason I use bukkit is because you can add in things called Plugins to your server. Plugins can range from things like an Anti Creeper plugin that stops creepers from spawning, or a very useful one like iConomy that sets up a whole in-game money system. Plugins can make your server more unique and enjoyable for you and your players, plus plugins can be used to fix problems with your server.


Building


An extremely important thing is that you build a nice simple spawn, you never want one that's to big and confusing because new players will just start running around and not know how your server works. A good idea is to just start with a small building that new players spawn in (AKA a Home/Spawn). Spawns/Homes usually have a list of the Staff members, Rules, and direction for new players on how to start like basic commands they will need in to use the server and things like that. Another thing I recommend is ChestShop it lets Admins of the server make shops that allow players to buy and sell from with an infinite amount of items, and it lets players make shops of there own with chest and they must put there items into the chest to be able to sell them.


Important Information


Now you want to make sure you set up your server so that its a kind of server you can just join and start playing. What I always do is use Factions so that you can claim a home spawn and other players can claim there land and not complain about someone spawn killing them and all kinds of chaos going on. Make sure you get a Jail plugin and a Mute plugin so you can stop rule breakers from messing with your server and punish them for breaking rules, because you always want to make sure you can try as hard as possible to ban the least amount of people you can.

As someone who owns a server that is vanilla and self-hosted (but not survivial),this came very useful (exept the plugin bit) . Not all servers need plugins. Many people think that a vanilla server is a survial server, but that's not always the case.
