A man in a tan camouflage shirt walks into a somewhat damaged room. The room has one light that barely works and a circular table with chairs around it. The walls are made of cracked concrete and there are no windows or decorations. There are other people in the room, all of them wearing the same tan camo and plate carriers that the first man has, but none of them are sitting at the table. The man stood at the table.

“We’ve gotten word of an attack on the Bishop Castle Fort, probably by the QHA,” Barett says. “We’ll leave on Vertibirds 03, 05 and 08 at 0900.”

“Where are we attacking from?” askes one of the soldiers standing at the table.

“The alleged QHA attack is coming from the north, so we should attack from their back,”

The three VTOLs take off from the top of the UCHealth hospital and head west. In total, there are 30 troops headed towards the fort. It takes almost ten minutes to get to the castle. When they arrive they see a small number of Quail Hill Aristocracy soldiers around the castle, which is in fairly good shape.

The castle is one main building with two smaller stone structures around it. It is made of red-tan bricks and has a dragon head on the front. The main structure has multiple tall towers with small pointy roofs. There is a metal walkway going around the top of the castle. An addition that had been made after the apocalypse is a tall wall made of steel sheets.

Some of the Eastern soldiers shoot out of the Vertibirds, providing cover fire for the troops that are going to jump out. Barett and eight other Easterner soldiers jump out of the Vertibird, which is hovering a few feet off the ground. The other soldiers hop out of their transports, surround the QHA army and point their weapons at them.

“Stand down!” one of the Easterners shouts.

A QHA soldier wearing the same makeshift body armour that they all did, shoulders his rifle without a word and begins shooting.

Then everyone is shooting and running around, trying to find cover and not get shot. Barett ducks behind a decaying brick wall and reloads. He peaks back out and takes a few shots, hitting most of them. The few troops with machine guns are pushing the Quail Hill force back and creating openings for the Easterners to fire. It was only a matter of minutes before they had won the battle.

Barett and his troops walk to the castle, now riddled with holes from the firefight. He casually walks up to the door and gives a knock. The door is opened by an older man with a brownish flannel jacket.

“Thank you for the help,” he says, “is there anything I can do to repay you?”

“No, not really,” says Barett, “we still need to clean this place up a bit, I don’t think you want to keep all these bodies laying around.”

For the rest of the afternoon, the easterners help the wounded and bury the dead. Once they are done they say goodbye to the owner of the castle and fly back to the hospital. They regroup at the meeting room.

“Lieutenant, we’ve got a message from the Black Forest group, they are being attacked,” says someone at a radio station.

“You think it’s Quail Hill?” asks Elijah.

“It’s likely,” says Barett, “well, no sense in procrastinating. We leave at 1500 hours.”

The End.
