Now, being one of the first minigames to ever be created, the highly popular SURVIVAL GAMES has indeed been around for quite some time. Mostly due to that reason, people have REEEEALLY gotten quite good at winnin' those matches. With a bit of time I came up with a few strategies for you crafters out there on how to really win a few matches in this PVP'ing minigame with utmost ease.

If your PVP skills are considerably good but your inventory management needs work:

DO NOT make a dash for the corn, a.k.a. the huge pile of chests located at spawn if the server you're playing on does not have a grace period or give players starter kits. If you're lucky, doing so might give you a weapon along with a kill or two, but otherwise you're just gonna get killed by people who've got themselves something sharp they can smack people around with. Instead, run as far away as you can from spawn and look for hidden chests elsewhere, then return to spawn once you've gotten yourself some armor and a sword, and finish off the newbies who dare hang around at spawn waiting for a refill.

If your PVP skills need work:

Same as above, run as far as you can away from spawn. Search for some basic gear from a couple hidden chests, then go on the lookout for a spot where you can keep an eye on your surroundings and make a run if enemies with better gear approach--or in other words, somewhere flat. In order to get yourself some kills, head over to spots with dense geography, for instance, a forest. Doing so will allow you to sneak up on careless players with better gear and finish them off with a bit of frantic clicking without giving them the opportunity to retaliate.

Once you've gathered some good gear, head back to a safe spot where you can minimize your chances of getting killed, or find a corner where you can place your back against a wall. Then, when the deathmatch commences, wait until the rest of the survivors have finished each other off, then swoop in to finish off the already-injured survivors.

Actually going for Spawn or Corn is a good idea, :P Take it from someone with large amounts of experience. Just don't take EVERY item in a chest, prioritize: (Stone) Sword, axe, (Wood) sword, axe, Armour, Bow + Arrows (Try not to take one without the other (if both are available), unless you have a good chest route). Furthermore aim to take 2-3 items in a chest, and hot key them. For example: My sword slot is 9 -> Key "R" so whenever I go to a chest I press on "E" (Slot 6) for any non-melee item I pick up and "R" for any I do find.
Also keep an eye out for fast grabbers. For example: There was a sword in my chest but the person next to me took it - move to the side or behind another player. Usually they will go for the person diagonally to their right or left - over corn, so side stepping makes you less noticeable.

You should mention Flat ground doesn't suit everyone - me being one of those people. :P You can use high points to hit people off PROVIDING you can get a drop. If it is a steep mountain you can try getting the drop or you could undercut someone like you would in water. Furthermore, using lava or cobwebs as a killing tool is good too. But what if the items burn? Who cares? Sure it would have been nice to have that iron chest plate BUT, I'd rather be still in the game. Lava is a good strategy for quick take downs. Cobwebs are good to trap people in and launch the bow-spam attacks. :P

None the less, a decent article. Try to however, watch those who have played a ton of games - they don't always win, but they know how to get far - and then compare people who have high win ratios. :)
