"Furries are Misunderstood" A rant / informative by Iaeyan Elyuex
When someone is called a "Furry", what do you picture in your mind? You probably picture an extremely geeky nerd in a mascot costume roleplaying. You may picture someone who looks at explicit pictures of anthropomorphic animals.
While these are both technically true, These are the most severe examples. Only the most hardcore
furries dress up and roleplay. If looking at pictures of anthros makes one a furry, then I guess I am one.
However:
The pictures I want to look at show anthros modestly dressed with no gratuitous... features, shall we say.
I don't look at them for sexual purposes. I mostly look at anthro Pokemon. Sometimes I imagine becoming one and gaining the pokemon's abilities. For example, I imagine turning into a Lugia so I can fly through the air and breathe underwater. The reason I don't picture turning into a complete Pokemon is so that I can translate Pokemon language and human language. (Another one of my fancies is becoming omnilingual.)
I do actually think the mascot thing is more than a bit much.
Also, anthros are more widely spread than you give credit for. Take Fox McCloud, for example. An anthropomorphic fox. Basically anyone in that series is an anthro. Many movies and TV shows have anthros. Does anyone remember Road Rovers? That show with the dogs that were pets of the world leaders. That machine turned them into anthros. Mickey Mouse. Anthropororphic mouse. (stretching it, perhaps?) Let's go back to video games. The Argonians and Khajiit from Elder Scrolls. Lizard and cat people.
You really shouldn't make generalizations. All furries are NOT alike.
TL;DR: Only hardcore furries dress up and roleplay. I'm not "hardcore", and even I find those people strange.
