Remember those Underwater Temples and strange Guardians added in 14w25a? Well, unlike last blog, this one won't be comedic, (OK, maybe a little) but researched and trying to figure out what these guardians are really guarding.

So, guardians and guards usually guard a person and follow that person wherever that person goes, right? Well, knowing that the only thing these guys follow is the player and squids, and they try to kill said players and squids. Elder guardians? Well, taking in consideration that guardians don't have AI to follow Elder Guardians and that there are 3 of them per structure, it cannot be them. Need more proof? Take a look at the name. Elder Guardian. A guardian of something that is old/elderly. There is no relation to a Wither or Enderdragon in any of the new features of the snapshot, therefore my research tells me these guys are guarding a treasure.

Now, we know that the are 8 gold blocks in each temple. There is also prismarine. Sponge does not mean anything because it doesn't spawn in all of the structures. As you might have already guessed, I'm looking at the gold blocks. The gold blocks themselves don't mean much, but they pave a yellow brick road of new thoughts (I try). Now, the question I asked myself while doing the research was, "What can you do with 8 gold blocks?" The possibilities are actually pretty narrow: build a gold floor, build gold columns, burn the gold, make tools/armor, get 81gold ingots, etc. What really struck me was the notch apple.

If you are still reading and didn't leave because of my pun, you are aware of the guardians guarding a notch apple. Still, I dig deeper into this research. As I read through the patch notes for the latest versions of Minecraft, I saw the snapshot that added worldborders, and remembered playing Captive Minecraft. As I scrambled to go back to the snapshot, I remembered there being new achievements added in 1.7. I finished my research, and here is my conclusion:

The Guardian Mob along with the Elder Guardian Mob are, like the Enderdragon is defending The End., the Guardians are defending Overpowered. And I am not defending you from showing your support for this blog.

Thank you fellow Minecraftians and Loyal Subscribers for reading! Please show your support if this research blog if made you laugh, smile, or know a little more about our game. I also wouldn't mind a Diamond or a comment, because I value your opinion!

Note To YOU, The Audience:
Thank you so much for your support on last blog! I really appreciate it. You helped a poor Miencrafter with 1 subscriber and 7 diamonds total reach 27+ on one post. It's an amazing feeling and it means so much. Remember that this content is for YOU!
CreditThanks Mojang for Guardians. Thanks Jeb for the guardian picture. Thank YOU for reading.

They're guarding the Ocean Monuments. That's why they're underwater and fishy. It's pretty obvious.

Ohhh I see!!
So, basicly a simpler translation. Since gold blocks can be turned into a Notch Apple, the guardians are protecting the gold blocks so we cant become overpowered, which the gold blocks help us become overpowered.
That makes sense.

Interesting... Though, I must disagree on your idea that the Elder Guardians guard something elderly. I think it means that they are older. That means they have more experience than the younger guardians which provide a good background for why they are bosses.

Hmm. They do have more experience. It is written in sense that the eelder guardians ate guardians of the same thing, but the guardians are more experienced.
