In this tutorial I will advice you guys on how to build an airport.

Note: The Aeroleague is an attempt to let users build their own airports without the need of making their own aircraft. For details see this link.
What you need:
-Time, depending on your airport size.
-A functional computer with internet access and minecraft
-MCEdit (must)
-Ultimate patience, it is going to take a while
Planes before airports, just like you need to know the size of your feet before you buy shoes.
Step 1: Research
You may want to find different maps of airports to decide which one you wanna build.
Example: Hong Kong International Airport

You may want to visit their architect's website for detailed drawings.

Step 1.5: Planning (own design)
If you want to design your own airport, step 1 is essential too. However you have the freedom to include architectural features from around the world. Try looking at different airports in different places
Singapore Changi Airport T3

Heathrow T2

You then have to create your own map of airport. Here is my example (Airport for Guntana Server)

Step 2: Start a new world, flatland with grass
This is my suggestion, it makes everything easier.
Step 3: Outline your terminals
Measure length with planes, or number of repeating features.
That's how I do it, That's a way of doing it.
Sometimes you may have to add or subtract 1-2 planes to make it realsitic. HKIA midfield = -1.
If you use Aeroleague planes do not use A380s for spacing. You'll end up with a supersized terminal with a few gates. I suggest using 777s (NOT -9X)

My attempt at Changi T3, but I don't have the time to continue

Guntana City's airport:

Little Trick, if you're building a real one before 2000 (when designs are pretty repetitive)

Okay it's a bit off :P
Step 4: Build
There's no Formula for this, but airprots generally have the following.
Terminals: they have to work.
Departure:
Dropoff >>> Check-in counters >>> Airport Security Check >>> Immigration (Passport) (Int. Flights only)>>>
Shops and stuff >>> Airprot gates >>> Aircraft

Arrival:
Plane >>> Gates >>> Immigration (Passport) (Int. Flights only) >>> Luggage Belts >>> Custom Offcers >>> Arrival Hall
I suggest to seperate these two systems into two floors.
Usually upper = departure.

With a little hard work and time you'll end up with something pretty cool.

Hong Kong International Airport Project: Since August 2013.
Good luck with yours
Step 5: Apron and Taxiways and Runways
Ususally I use clay for apron and stone for taxiways. All of them use MCEdit.
Step 6: Planes (you may have done that already)
Just place them. If you didn't build them before you make the airport good luck, but usually it doesn't work.

Tips:
Do not overlook the power of planning when you design an airport. Below is my first airport which I see as a failure.

And to continue, follow your plans.

That's pretty much it.
