I'm sure you have seen Magic mods about on Planet Minecraft. But this, this will be better. Why? Because it is so awesome that it will take too long to be implemented! That's why i decided to enter this contest.
The main idea of this is Magic. It will come from an ore called "Magia", which means magic in Latin. It can be found around the same height level as diamond, but is five times as rare! It is a light, lustrous purple that is pleasant to look at. When mined, it has a %5 chance of exploding. Five percent isn't too much, but you should still mine ti with care. It drops "Magicae Essentia", which is Latin for "Magic Essence". If you place it, it will explode. I recommend you don't place it. It is for smelting instead! When smelted, it yields "Mirari" which is Latin for "Wonder". When smelted again, it will give you "materiae mutante", which is Latin for "Matter Changer". It's name is a good one, as it literally changes matter! The gem is a sparkling beauty that is a marvel for all to see. It is the building block of Magic.
The first thing we can do with materiae mutante is craft a wand. to do this, you craft a shovel, but instead of an ore at the top, you put materiae mutante. The wand is currently useless because we have not bound a spell to it yet. But before we can even think of casting a spell, we need to charge the want. To do so, right click a glowstone block. This will destroy the glowstone block and give back only a mere block of dirt, but it will charge your wand. Now, we can bind a spell to it and begin casting!
To bind a spell to the wand, we need to stick it in a crafting table along with one of the special dyes. These dyes are rose red, bonemeal, inc sacs, Lapis Lazuli, and cactus green. We will start with rose red. This, because of it's fiery color, will make the fire spell. Just plop it in a crafting table with a wand, and you're ready to go! Right click with this and it will launch a projectile similar to a ghast fireball. On impact, it will have a %10 of exploding and %100 of setting fire to nearby blocks. It is also useful for fighting, as it sets mobs on fire and has a %1 of exploding and immediately killing them!
Another special dye is the Lapis Lazuli dye! When bound to a wand, it creates the "Mutare" spell, which is Latin for "alter". This spell will change an ore into another ore by simply right clicking on it. But beware, as it has an %80 chance of changing the ore to stone! Is it worth the risk? Ask yourself that, not me!
Another dye is Bonemeal. When changed into a spell and bound with the wand, it creates the spell "Sanare", which is Latin for "heal". When used, it heals 5 hearts! It is useful when battling. But you don't activate it by right clicking! The wand will only cast the spell if the following conditions are met: the wand is in your hot bar, you have at least 5 hearts missing from your health bar, and you haven't been attacked in the last 30 seconds. The spell is useful to have when adventuring!
The dye cactus green creates the spell "herbam virentem", which is Latin for Vegetation! When right clicked on a grass block, it will spam the earth with vegetation! This includes pumpkins, trees, melons, wheat, tall grass, and more! It is useful for creating a garden, or getting materials for a farm. If you have an eye for nature, you may even say it generates a masterpiece!
The last dye is the inc sac. When bound to a wand, it creates the spell "evanescant", which is Latin for vanish! On right click, the spell will create a smoke screen in front of you, obscuring you from vision ffrom others! But beware, as it also renders your vision. It only has one use, so after you create that one smoke screen, it will revert back into a regular wand with no bound spell.
All these spells and uses for the wand may seem great, but it is only one good addition to the game! So, we simply add more! You can make "arma", which is Latin for armor! And that's exactly what it is, armor! although, because of the rarity of materiae mutante, it is quite expensive! For it's rarity, it makes up for in usefulness! It depletes %85-%90 of damage, and has a %3 of not giving any damage! It depletes fall damage by %95, and makes you able to breath underwater for an extra 30 seconds! For all it's usefulness, it depletes quickly. It has the same durability as diamond armor, but loses durability every second it is worn! So, although it last a long time, it seems to disappear quickly.
Now that we have armor, we definitely need tools! But we need something better than an ordinary tool... we need a staff! You craft the staff as you would a hoe, but replacing the ore with materiae mutante. The staff is all the tools in one! It digs faster, chops wood faster, mines faster, and even tills better! But the best part is it's features as a weapon! It deals more damage than an iron sword, but not quite a diamond sword. It has a %15 of setting the target on fire, poisoning it, making it invisible, or any other potion effect! It is quite useful in battle!
Now that we have plenty of new items, we need something more, but not an item. How about a mob! But what to add... A witch! No wait, that is already added. Then, a wizard! A wizard spawns in a Wizards hut, which is exactly the same as a Witch's hut, but larger and has a bed in it! The wizard looks like an old villager with a drooping hat and glasses. It walks slowly and carries a wand with a random spell bound to it. Sometimes a wizard can have a spell like herbam virentem, which is the vegetation spell, and will be passive. But other times it can have a spell like Fire and be hostile! When hit, it becomes hostile no matter the spell it holds, it can still whack you with that wand. When killed, it has a %50 to drop materiae mutante, varying from 2-6! It also drops the wand it was holding. The most important drop though is the wizard hat.
The wizard hat can be worn in the helmet slot. It gives half an armor value, so it does not protect you from much. But what it really does is it adds mana to your HUD. The mana is like armor points, except they are blue stars. When you have mana, your wand will automatically recharge. Mana increases over long periods of time, about on average a half a mana every two minutes. Mana is useful for battle, when you can't stop to charge your wand.
I think magic should be added to the game in future updates as stated here, as it can make game play more unique and interesting. It's just that extra ore to mine, or that other mob to kill that just ignites the fire as inspiration. It took me a long time to come up with what I have here. I have been thinking about it even before this contest. This contest was like a sign from above that this idea was meant to be. Even if it will never be, it is, here in this article. I thank you from my deepest pit in my heart for reading these articles, of how Minecraft, the game we all love, can change. Change can be for better or for worse. But we cannot change change. Bit of irony right there, changing change. If my dreams do eventually come true, and this gets implemented into Minecraft, well then I will thank you for reading this and for making this contest reality and inspiring me to write this extremely long and painful-to-write article.
Thank you.
