Discussing XP and More!

"Wait? You mean XP isn't everything?"

Introduction:

Today I'll be discussing XP, how people take it, how it is good and bad, and if there's any way to solve this PMC madness! My overall "PMC Community" quote for this is, "Wait? You mean XP isn't everything?" because I think it sums it up fairly well :) So, read on if you are interested.

Overall View:

So, let's get the basis straight, we're talking about XP, but... what about it? You're making no sense...? Well, my experience is this: People think that levelling up is everything on PMC, and they'll spam posts, comment as much as they need to, and really find a lot of ways to get as much XP as possible. Some of you might be thinking, well..? People kinda identify people by their levels, so of course people want to level up. You're making no sense. But, I think identifying people by their levels is kinda low :/ [I might discuss this more in a future post.] Now, as I build up to the next category, I'll leave you with this, can only wanting XP and wanting to get as much as you can however you can bad? Well, it seems pretty bad to me... but, are there any pros to XP? We'll discuss that soon enough!

Pros/Cons:

First, I'll list the cons for XP, how people can abuse it, and more!

• It can become all people want, and defeats the point of everything else PMC is about.
  
• People can break rules and start spamming to get more XP.
  
• It can hold back more options to make new ways to XP since people will abuse them.
  
• It can put a bad perspective on someone/someone's account if everyone is expected to have a lot of XP and someone doesn't.
  

I might add more cons in the future, but now for the pros of having XP!

• It's always nice to have something to work toward to set a goal. Most people aren't inclined to work half as hard if there's nothing to work towards.
  
• Ranking is always nice and fun for a website to have. How else could you properly classify how well people are doing on their submissions? (This could also be a con, because someone might have a few really good submissions, but it isn't enough if they don't post more to get them a much higher level.)
  

As I hope you all have seen by now, nothing is completely black or white. There are both good reasons and bad reasons for having XP. (Might add more to the list later :3)

Conclusion:

Really, there is no answer. People suck, and they restrict other things from happening because of what they do. Someone in chat (forget their username) said it might be nice to earn XP from reporting posts to influence it more. A moderator replied saying that even though that might be nice, many members might report things even if they're not bad. I, personally, am very happy we have XP and levels, so I can build up to hopefully reach higher levels; but, when people make that everything they want it ruins many amazing parts of PMC: to have fun, interact with other people, and help the minecrafting community!
At the end of the day, I know there's nothing PMC can do about the people who will misuse privliges besides banning them, or temporarily banning them. I'm happy with the PMC community for what I've seen, and we can't stop people from going XP-crazy.
