Recently I have been pondering on how I could accomplish my goal of a Civilization inspired map. I have been questioning whether I should create 3D models for units so that a player, for instance, could actually BE a submarine or Carrier or perhaps even a combat rover. The difficulty of such would be immense for me, for I don't know how I could accomplish the creation of such models. My other idea is to abandon my attempt at a 4x game and to instead create an adventure map style game where one unlocks structures for food, resources, and energy while battling aliens (sadly more models) and buying ships that give the player access to another city with more structures to unlock.
One minor idea I have, which is much less spectacular, is going the route of a survival-based map, much like that of A World On Fire giving the player a massive, open world to survive in and having a structure somewhere on the map that transports the player to the ending.
Now, I have been thinking of something more dramatic, something more spectacular. Instead of beginning the game on the planet, I have been playing around with the idea of beginning the game at the dawn of civilization on Earth, working up through buying ships to explore new lands and gaining coins to eventually buy a Great Ship to settle another world and continue the map thereon.
Of course, if you have any suggestions for model makers that can make large models it would be extremely appreciated, for I still plan on having a player to run around and pretend to be a rover :D
