OpenProfile 5, the most advanced character profile in the world.
OpenProfile is an upcoming collaborative cross-platform application for writers, producers, and role-players to share minds and create diverse characters using an immensely advanced and FREE character profile template. For fandoms and authors, we even have a public database in the works that would enable users to learn more about your characters and the universe that goes around them! We've developed the design and whereabouts for OpenProfile for the past 7 years to bring you the ultimate cross-platform application.
About OpenProfile
Our target audience are character creators, writers, producers, enterprises needing collaboration and organization when it comes to producing content involving character writing, character development, and more. We have other plans in the future as well but these are yet to be decided.
The whole project is a GNU open-source project available freely to everyone! Our only premium offerings would be general development support to get a badge on user profiles and unlock unlimited access if you have exceeded 100 characters. You can still self-host or download the offline applications (not currently available) for unlimited free access. Apart from that, being a free project, we want to keep it that way the most possible. If enterprises want a private hosting for the app, then maybe that will be paid as well as any physical copies of the character profile assuming users prefer hand writing down stuff over digitally and purchase from our shop (not currently available). Obviously free pintables would exist as well.
Why OpenProfile?
I've (AvatarKage) been a writer for over a decade and one of my greatest struggles is character organization and profiling thus why I created this project in 2017 and took it back for public development in 2021. This helped resolved this long-term problem for me as I can now simply open a profile and get all the info I need in one place, in an organized form! Unlike before, I used to look trough a multitude of books and documents trying to find a crucial misplaced information about the character which would waste at times hours or even days. I hope to resolve this for others as I heard it's a common hassle for fellow writers and character developers.
Being a public application and knowing the diverse characters created by the various authors globally, we want to create this application for everyone. A goal of ours is to have this distributed and translated to every language and country possible to ensure everyone globally, even the minorities, are fully included in this experience.
Will it be Actively Maintained?
Being an open-source project, so long the additions are useful and beneficial to everyone then we'd consider merger from a contributor's code to ours in hopes to have a better application than before. For hosting, so long it doesn't become financially draining and have active supporters, hopefully permanently. This isn't a temporary application and was never planned to be. Regardless of future struggles, we'll find way to keep this project alive.
Speaking of which, our brand has some characters of its own that we could use on merch or even YouTube content to help further fund hosting and what not in the future. OpenProfile is our brand name but we are not limited to only OpenProfile (the app) itself! We want to create other applications in the future to give more options to users compared to most commercial products that could be a lot better and we have written down ideas already. We have a long way to go but we hope within the next few years we can make a mind-blowing cross-platform application on web, desktop, mobile, and Discord that users, brands, all, would just love! We're actively developing the application and hope to get a web beta out within the next month. Preview updates are released daily to weekly currently.
