This topic has been posted on the forums too many times. I think its time someone explained how they work.

Introduction

Although you may not like it, advertisements are what keep websites alive. They don't pay for themselves. And so what anyways? You are getting a great site for free and all you have to do is look, or not look, at a few ads, If you think these ads are inappropriate, or you don't like them, you can install an ad blocker, like ad block plus, or ghostery.

Inappropriate ads

So why do these inappropriate ads show up on PMC? Isn't this a site for kids? Well yes it is. Advertisement companies like Quancast and OpenX don't care if its a website for kids. They are after money, and they are prepared to do anything that they would like. Nobody has any control over what ads appear on PMC's pages. The advertising companies find high traffic sites, and place high value ads on them. This gives the site more money. Although it may seem a bit sleazy, for PMC or other companies to be doing this, its their major source of income and there is ways to block it, so there is no reason to complain. This site gives you good Minecraft content for free. You are not paying to get on PMC and download that new skin or that cool new resource pack. You just gotta deal with it.

Why this is NOT Google's fault

Now wait a second, I heard that Google tracks what you look at and displays ads based off your browsing history. Well yeah they do, just Google does text based ads, not graphic. You also have a way to turn that off through your settings in your Google account. And they have strict policies in place so that these types of ads don't show up on websites like this, or any website. The only problem, is that PMC doesn't use Google, they use other advertisement companies.

How can I tell that these ads are not Google's fault? This magical thing called, Ghostery. Ghostery is a tool that allows you to detect and block tracking scripts in websites. So you can block virtually any advertising script that is out there unless it is custom made. Its like adblock plus, but more advanced.

I know you all probably want to jump to conclusions since the G+ incident with YouTube, but Google isn't *that* bad of a company. Sure they have some privacy issues but they are not out to get your wallet nor are they wanting to ruin childhoods through ads. So lighten up.

Conclusion

Thank you all for reading this and I hope now you have a bit better understanding and appreciation for the ads that appear. Remember that this is not PMC's fault so you can't go harping on them.

I do accept criticism but I don't accept hatred, keep this in mind when posting.

No. Cookies.
Cookies track what websites you have been visiting and give the appropriate adverts to the user.
