Lets be honest here, this blog's not the first one in the history of PMC to address the 'quality vs quantity' debate or topic. Recently I've been interested enough to keep an eye on the comments and ideas of this topic on Redfox_pw's blog about the very same thing. Before you think I'm just blatantly copying the idea..read the credit part :) I'll also link Redfox's blog here for reference.

Redfox_pw's original blog on the topic => www.planetminecraft.com/blog/quality-vs-quantity-3493959/

In the world of PMC it's only too easy to make a submission, as long as you follow the rules and don't abuse the changelog. Pretty easy right? No crap sherlock it's easy as anything. Sorry, just had to insert the little bit of sarcasm, just for the sake of making the point of how easy it is to make a submission. Submissions in the PMC world vary from resourcepacks to projects that can consist of schematics or world downloads and more.

I want to make this blog a little more unique and to my style, that of which attempting to properly address the topic in decent detail with some examples that I've seen on this wonderful website. So that means I want to talk about the different types of submissions that are on PMC.

Due to a lack of understanding or use of the 'collections' page I won't be talking about this, the otherareas of submissions (minus mods, banners and servers) I am going to talk about in decent detail.

Projects
I consider myself a decent builder, and depending on the type of build and if I'm really into the build it becomes a fantasic build to work on. The niceties of PMC allows both professional-ish, amateur and newbies alike to submit their builds and in the 'quality vs quantity' debate lets call these types of builds "good", "meh" or "bad".

Most would surely agree that posting a world of a dirt hut that says "Amazing Build" pales compared to the mostly majority of good builds on PMC. Having a good picture and title is something that the average person will notice first. Oftentimes I see that people use either a) normal screenshot (no resourcepack or resourcepack used) or b) use the shaders mod to take screenshots.

Don't get me wrong, I use shaders myself so I've used it before. Shaders is friggen beautiful when you use them. In my own experience of submitting worlds, screenshots or projects, quality is the overiding preference where people submit projects day in and day out.

However, even the average wonderchild of builders can be lost amongst the greats of builders on here, if I have anything to say about those wonderchildren, that's to give a little support. Even the best of us builders had to start from the little dirt hut. Buuuuut in light of the quality vs quantity, quality builds hold up in views and reputation over very basic builds.

A few examples of good looking builds:

Scarecrow's Revenge- http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/scarecrows-revenge/

Quality or Quantity? Quality

Skins
There are a great variety of skins on PMC, good, bad or meh in my personal opinion. In my own experience of trying to make a decent skin I can understand the initial difficulty in making them, I wasn't very happy with my first skin, the only one I submitted I ended up taking down from my submissions because I wasn't happy with it.

There's plenty of debate over teen skins, shaded vs unshaded, how shaded skins should be and what is over the top for a minecraft skins. And for the most, it's each to their own. I, personally don't like the flood of "teen skins" because they're not really that unique. Shaded skins from female PMC'ers are a hard find for me depending on what kind of skin I have the feels for.

Felinka's assassin skin (www.planetminecraft.com/skin/-fia---assasin/) is my current skin and it's a great one for the kind of skin style I'm into so far. Quality vs quantity is a tougher one because it's more the personal preference of "each to their own".

Quality or Quantity? Quality

Resourcepacks
Resourcepacks from impression, are a harder one to judge in all honesty. They take a long time to properly maintain, and even updating them makes them worth keeping up to date. Resourcepacks can be made 3D which is awesome, thanks to the recent Mojang updates to Minecraft updates.

Once again I feel like it is up to personal preference or whatever you feel like using resourcepack- wise. I enjoy the more default- minecraft based ones at this point in time, but I also enjoy using Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS, Sphax Purebdcraft and Travelling Tardis.

Because PMC is for everyone who loves the game as much as the next minecrafter, it's difficult to make the quality v quantity arguement. There is only a limited number of building blocks, so you are going to get atleast a ratio of 5:2 in favour of quantity. over quality. Not everyone can be a good builder, designer, or have a creative brain. I find PMC quite endearing that everyone can share their creations no matter what, perhaps if they don't hit 3 ratings/favourites after 4 months they could get taken off. Projects and Skins are the main areas where that would have to be addressed. Perhaps splitting the Projects section into 2, with 'Minor projects' for the basic, more simple builds, then leaving the rest for a wider variety of project submissions. Even though I only joined this site today, I agree with a lot of what you've said concerning these topics.

To a degree, when someone can make use of the limited blocks in a great fashion it shows their skill in using the basic blocks. PMC thus far is the best minecraft- based website in my experience, minecraft forums is great but this website has a good community and good submission quality overall. Minus the not- so good or bodgy submissions.

In regards to the "taken down after 4 months" that would probably be more of a bad choice and personally speaking some of my blogs haven't gotten that many diamonds, but neither do I nag for diamonds as it is by choice for someone to diamond or favourite any of my blogs. I do this as a hobby, something that I quite enjoy doing especially when I've got the inspiration to do them.

Agreed, but what other alternatives to reducing the quantity are there?
