Hey PMC. So lately I have been seeing a significant dip in the quality of the blog section. So instead of sitting around and let it crumble, I decided to make a tutorial on how to blog. Properly and

The Big Blogging Bundle.

This is part 1. I hope you enjoy.

Titles, Thumbnails and Basic Rules.

Basic Rules.

So, one of the reasons that I think the quality of the blog section is dipping is the fact that a lot of people ignore the rules of blogging and create blogs that don’t fit with the rules. This will be a relatively short section, because I’m just going to run down a list of things that are NOT blogs.

-Advertisements.

-Questions; asking for help on a server, etc.

-Complaining (Okay if it’s a well-structured argument, but not if it is a two line, full caps rant).

-Requests.

-Announcements. (Saying – new texture packs soon! Etc).

-Apologies.

All those things, if you post them as a blog, will get the blog removed and you will probably be given a warning.

Titles.

Titles are one of the first things that people will see when clicking onto your blog. As a result, it is important to make a title that is creative and to the point.

For an effective title, you want to avoid having a title that has NOTHING to do with the blog that it is heading. For example…

“I love bananas!”

(The blog is about how Minecraft is dying/becoming less popular).

Also, try to avoid titles that are too ambiguous or don’t tell you enough about the blog that is it heading. For example…

“Ugh”

(A blog about how teen skins are bad).

A title needs to tell the user what the blog is about, but should not give away the whole blog. Giving away the whole blog basically means the user doesn’t need to click.

“Why I think the chat is such a fun place to be because you can hang out with cool people and….”

(I don’t need to say what this one is about)

Here are some examples of good, neat and creative titles.

“Impending doom or overreaction – the downfall of the blogging section “

“Teen skins – problem or perfection?”

“Dead or developing – the growth of Minecraft”

These titles are extremely well written and attract users well. A title may seem like a small detail but is actually quite important. If your title is offensive/rude but the blog isn’t, it could get flagged. But a good title is nothing without a good thumbnail…

Thumbnails

Thumbnails are the images that go above a blog. Thumbnails are the images that go above a blog. They are often the thing that attracts a user to a blog, so the thumbnail has to be clean and well made. Here are three good tools you can use to create thumbnails..

-Panzoid – an online thumbnail maker, you can choose from lots of different backgrounds and fonts.

-Photoshop – a professional image making tool.

-GIMP – an image making tool that isn’t as professional as PS, but is free.

Thumbnails have to be actually related to the blog, which seems pretty obvious. But some people don’t listen to this.

If you’re making a blog about how Minecraft is dying, don’t use a happy smiling anime girl as the thumbnail. If you’re making a blog about diamonding, a random picture of Steve or a banana or something doesn’t work.

In my opinion, the thumbnail should have the title of the blog and maybe an image to spice it up a bit. A thumbnail should be…

-Colourful

-Clean

-Neat

All these things will attract people to your blog via that thumbnail. Here is a mini tutorial to help you make a decent one.

1.)    First, go into your image making tool and choose a background. It could be a pattern, a simple colour or the background could be an image.

2.)    Then, select your text tool. Choose a font that looks good and that fits in with the rest of the thumbnail. Move it to whatever place you want.

3.)    This step is optional. Take a relevant image and copy it into the thumbnail that you are making. Size the image appropriately, and then move it to the place you want it to go. Then save the thumbnail and download it!

That’s the tutorial! I hope it was informative. If you have any suggestions for tips I could add, comment them down below! And remember to diamond, favourite, and subscribe if you liked it!

Solid advice, but a bit hard to follow. Better formating would allow you to help the community even more than you are like this. You know how to write, just work on your presentations.

You probably should have mentioned criticism in your blog too. Criticism is the fastest way to learn how to improve your content; if you listen to it, you will succeed.

This is one part of a series. As a anouncement to everyone, grammar, criticism and other writing related things will be in later parts.

Cmon dude, what's with this double spaced format. It's harder for me to read when I have to scroll more than I have to.

This is great. Thanks for calling out some of the issues a lot of blogs have! I've seen a lot of blogs which advertise and a lot which ask random 1 line questions. When making a blog it also really helps to try to use proper grammar and spelling too.
