When i was first screwed over by the * permission it was on my first server (may it rest in peace). A couple of really genuine guys whom names i have long forgotten were really into my first server. However, after a few hours of fun chit chat they told me about not being able to to use tools. Stupidly enough, I took their advice to bind the permission node "*" to their usernames. Needless to say the server was..well..to put it nicely. Gone. Within half a minute not only was a banned (IP banned too) with an shall i say very interesting and "colorful" message, but all my warps were deleted, my spawn destroyed, and my server ruined. With a single command (/manuaddp [Name] *), these people had destroyed all I had worked for. Looking back, I am extremely grateful they did what they did. Not only was I able to rebuild the server ten times better than before, but I gained a lot of insight about the hidden world of trickery in Minecraft. In fact on a final note, you would be surprised how many server owners would fall for the same trick. Don't be one of those server owners.
