The following is a short ballad I wrote about the search of diamonds. I hope it inspires you to write your own Minecraft-based literature; I hope to see your next literary masterpiece on the front page!

I walked down the halls of clean stone
I love SMP so I'm never alone.
I spotted a glitter in the dark
Prettier than the song of a lark.
But when my pick achieved its goal
All I had was a lump of coal.
I mined even deeper towards the core
Hoping I could find even more.
After I hit layer twelve
I almost fell in a pit of hell.
But, luckily, it allowed me to see
A small vain of iron right above me.
I avoided the lava lake in my path
I took a second to do the math.
About a 1 in 300 chance to find
The one thing that was on my mind.
I barely noticed when my pickaxe would hold
On account of resistance from a block of gold.
I dug for a while, and started to mope
I nearly gave up all my hope.
When finally, my stone pick stopped
Against the best type of block.
In a cave, and off to the right
Diamonds glittered in lack of light.
I used my cobble to make a furnace
And used my coal to light it's midst.
I used my gold ore to make a bridge
Over the gap to the diamond's ridge.
I smelted my iron, to for a pick so fine
Notch himself would be jealous of mine.
I walked over to the diamond block
When I noticed a creature walked.
I wasn't able to turn in time
When a great explosion rocked my mind.
I got the screen that I had died
Put my head down, then I cried.
Months later, in real time
I decided to go back in that mine.
Due to others, it was not the same
As it was when I last lost the game.
However, I found my way
Back to the treasure I'd lost that day.
My iron pickaxe left no time
For me to make up my terrified mind.
When I heard a hissing, right from behind
I shrieked loudly in my mind.
My pickaxe also made great haste
Mutilating the creeper's grass green face.
nI think of this story while holding the pickaxe
How I got three diamonds without any hacks.
Some people have so many diamonds
They forget people can take up months
Trying to find these elusive blocks
So don't be rude, to those who walk
On cobblestone roads in their Singleplayer Lands
But help them make their worlds just as grand.
As your own, and remember this
Hold your ground when the creepers hiss.
