Hey PMCers, I'm Eidon and I've recently noticed that a lot of thread names don't catch my eye. They don't interest me enough to click on. But then sometimes when i'm bored, i'll click on one that doesn't seem appealing and i'll read it and it is! So, I'd thought I'd write about how to figure out a name that is good enough to catch peoples eye.
Don't use all caps!
You know that little voice in your head that reads words? That. Makes. You. Pause. Between. Each. Period? Most of the time when something is WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS IT FEELS LIKE THAT VOICE IS SHOUTING.
See what I mean? So don't use all caps, it feels like you're shouting at the reader and are immediately turned away.
Use proper grammar!
This one everyone should know that they should do, but sometimes its ignored. If you use proper capitalization and proper grammar, you look more professional and look more like you know what you're doing. Type out numbers and spell out words. Don't use 'r' instead of 'are', 'u' instead of 'you', '2' instead of 'to' or 'too', and '4' instead of 'for'. It'll make it easier to read and to follow.
If there is a way around it, don't ask a question!
Now, obviously this doesn't apply to polls. But instead of "Do you watch Supernatural? Read this fanfiction!", go ahead and try "Read this Supernatural fanfiction!". It condenses the title and doesn't give in to opinions.
Don't make a super long title!
Nobody wants to be scrolling through the Last 20 Posts and gets to a title that is too long to read. I know it makes me feel like the topic is going to be lengthy and I don't want to get into it.
Make the title related to the topic!
If you're advertising a skin, don't use something about bacon (unless its a bacon skin). Don't be making a topic about Minecon and having the title be about Sesame Street. Its simple to follow this one.
Be specific!
For example: If you're advertising for your server, don't just say "Join this server!". Say something catchy like (random made up server name) "CookieCraft Survival 1.7.2 Near-Vanilla server needs players!" Don't just call it, "My new skin", name what kind of skin it is, if its from a video game, make sure you list that too! Just make sure the title isn't too long (as previously stated).
Make your title unique! I'm not saying that you'll definitely get more views if you follow these, but if I saw one that followed these guidelines I know I'd read it. These are just my opinions, so don't be a hater please.
Please give a diamond if you liked, favorite if you loved, and a sub if you love me :D
