Hello all once again, i thought it would be fun to share what it is like to be a game developer, and hopefully inspire some others to try it out. My name is Corbin, but i prefer dawn, i am 16 years old. I became fairly interested with game development back when i played Metroid Prime for the gamecube when i was age 6. Never had i felt such atmosphere, and for how old i was i remember it quite well. The game was a masterpiece and i had found my idol, Mike Wikan, part of the development team for Prime. From that point i had my heart set on making my own game, i had no idea where to start, and because of my young age there were no real oppurtunities for me to learn. About two years ago, i started working on my own project, Unnamed SAO fangame. It never really got past the very early stages of development due to the team only being composed of one person, myself. Later on i decided i would recruit some people and start my own serious remake for a game called Metroid Fusion.
Soon my team grew from 2, 4, 10, and not too long after, 15! It was like a dream, i was achieving my childhood goals, something i thought i would never truely do, now Reforged Games is a full on game development group. Now we can talk about what game development is REALLY like. Game Dev is constant hard work, daily calls and collaberations. We all work in different areas but we all still work on the same thing, I for one am preforming level design, which consists of building the levels and using assets (rocks, any models etc.) to attract a players attention to guide them without them realising. There are many different areas in development.
With this comes understanding, you have to understand that not all your ideas will make it or even get past the 'hey would it not be cool to add ****** to this game?' but your team should also understand that these things need to be considered at the least.
Most of us are in it for the actual work, not the money, we are in it to be with people who think like us, we all have fun and feel like family around eachother. Daily i talk with my team and help them get better at what they do, we all share our work with eachother and have chats about how we could do better. Game development is a fun learning atmosphere, where you can connect to others. If you wish to speak more on the topic of game development Ask me here! Thank you all for reading and i hope this helps you in some way, if you see any way for me to expand on this (it was somewhat rushed to be honest...) please tell me in the comments :)

There are many different areas in development.
- Level Design- One of the more obvious parts of a game, this is the process of building the games map/levels using assets (models, materials etc)
- Materials And Textures- This is the art for the game, the images that go on models or walls are designed by people in this area.
- Programming- What first comes to mind when thinking of game development, it is hard work mostly consisting of math (i cannot understand a word these people say most of the time...)
- Modelling- The creation of shapes for textures and animations to be placed on. These people are usually quite fun to be around, very creative :)
- Rigging- Falls under the modelling catagory, I do not know much about this area...except that the order of work on a model goes, modelling - rigging - texturing - animating
- Animation- Falls under modelling yet again, this is the process of making the model move under certain actions etc, such as the model jumping or walking.
- Consulting- This is who you go to for advice on a certain design choice, everything goes through them and they give advice based on their thoughts.
- Legal- Who you want on your side if any issues with copyrights or other things come up.
- Music Producing- Nothing to really say on this subject, its quite self explanatory.
- Sound effects- Falls under music, still self explanatory
With this comes understanding, you have to understand that not all your ideas will make it or even get past the 'hey would it not be cool to add ****** to this game?' but your team should also understand that these things need to be considered at the least.
