So basically, this is a RANT. If you dont like rants, go away, but they happen.

(Aka. Please don't sue me.)

So today I was going to do make some seed showcase using some shaders and I ran into a few problems. First when I was trying to install shaders, I got GSGL shader mod and some shader packs. Although it turned out that the mod developer had quit and I had to download another unofficial version which would work with 1.5.2. After I downloaded this I found out that it would only work with a specific version of Optifine. So I had to download a entirely new version of Optifine and install that instead.

After I sorted out those problems it was time to install this mod called camera studio. And for that I needed ModLoader. And Forge. And some other mods which Camera Studio needed. I've worked about an hour on modding my client, and I still haven't managed to mod it with all this.

My point is, where is the Modding API?

Mojang said they would do it back with the release of 1.0 and they said they were actively making it several times, but here I am, a year later, with still no Mod API. It shouldn't be too hard. I mean, if push comes to shove, they can always make some new way that mods are made and force all the mods to adapt to their new system. I mean to be able to just put mods in a mods folder and have them all work with no problems. I know you're going to say 'get ModLoader' or something like that, but most mods don't work with ModLoader and they are very buggy anyway.

We just need a central Mod API that everyone would make their mods on, and having to manually install things would be a thing of the past.

Thanks for reading, if you enjoyed a diamond would be nice!

UPDATE: Looks like Dinnerbone has answered us, with a new Resource Pack feature, which will replace texture packs. They can also hold Language Packs and custom sounds. Just released this in the 1.6 Update yesterday! gist.github.com/Dinnerbone/5662824

So this is a 'step forward' towards the Mod API. There was also another step forward, not in APIs but in the new Launcher. Now there is a new launcher, so if you don't know you need to get it from the Minecraft website. You can have multiple minecraft directories, each with different mods, which are called profiles. Each can also have a seperate minecraft account, or other different things. However, you still have to mod the actual game itself. Another bad thing about the new Launcher, is that it looks ugly, and to someone who is a noob at computers, this may seem like a foreign launguage to them. There aren't much design features, but I'm sure there will be more changes in upcoming versions.

Talked about the step towards the Mod API within the new launcher. May do a separate blog for this!
