So you just bought your first minecraft server, congrats! You just uploaded your server to PMC and a multitude of other websites and get your first visitor, you greet him/her with a warm welcome and not 5 seconds later, you get the dreaded question. "Can I have mod/admin plz?".
Why is this question frustrating?
This question can be hated for many reasons if you think about it, you just dished some big amounts of money, to host a high quality server that you spent hours in creating, and possibly days if not weeks setting up the spawn, shops scenery ect. Just to have the first few users ask if they can have administrative privileges. Believe it or not, TONS of players go around asking if they can have admin privileges on a server, especially a new one or one that is posted on the Server Hall PMC chat room. You must be thinking. "How can I kindly let these users down and deny them administrative privileges?"

How do I handle this situation?
There are many ways to handle a situation such as this, the first would to be ignore it. If they think your not watching they may get bored and just play the server. The other option is to deny it, which may irritate them. Most of these users who ask for mod/admin powers are of a young, immature age. Which is why you should not under any circumstances take the offer up on any of these requests. Ask them to fill out an application, not just any old application either, a good one, and set high requirements, these will usually filter all the people who just want mod powers to ruin or completely alter a server.
But I need Admins/Moderators?
The only people you should "hire" to be an admin or modorator are ironically, people who don't ask for it. I HIGHLY reccomend you only admin/mod people that you know in the real world, this greatly reduces the chances of admin abuse, this includes friends, siblings, and even co-workers!

Too bad my forums aren't working at all...
This gives some info to server owners on who to trust and not to trust. I always use the more mature poeple and people who are of a higher age.
Also another tip set an age limit for people to be staff.
