Let me start of by saying that this may or may not happen. Who knows? I certainly don't. Feel free to voice your opinion in the comments!

As you have most likely heard, Notch has sold Mojang for 2 billion USD (although some are saying it is 2.5 billion), however, for the purpose of this Blog I will relate all maths to GPS which is otherwise known as £.

Microsoft is a very successful company who has managed to get to be one of the top of the food chain in the computer industry and they did not get there by bumb luck. Microsoft has time and time again made profits in most of what they do. This causes a problem. No one in Microsoft bought Minecraft for the hell of it...

I have done my maths! (Yeah, after all of that time complaining that I would never need it in real life) The truth is, if Microsoft continues to sell Minecraft at it's current price (£17.95 remember I am using £) then they will have to sell a total of 68439969.9164 accounts! Thats almost 70 million (Did I read that right? Meh, i'm sure someone will tell me)

Now call me insane, but I don't see that happening today, tommorow or in the next 10 YEAR! So it is fair to say that Minecraft might introduce DLC. How would you like it if your updates started costing money? If we are lucky then they will stay away from that and just add cosmetic DLC like capes and other things. I bet you are cynical about his entire blog, yes? Well don't forget that the Xbox version has DLC and who controlls that? OH YEAH IT MICROSOFT

So what do you think, will Minecraft have DLC, will they be paid updates or just cosmetic? Have your say in the comments!

I think they re going to make some "official modpacks" and they are going to sell those, and customization features... But I don't want any DLCs I don't want to pay for my modpacks and updates...

Thanks, that means they have more money to make up for. I'll edit that in.

You based your logic around PC account purchases being Minecraft's only source of revenue.

Minecraft rakes in boatloads of money from licenses to Lego and other companies making Minecraft merchandise, not to mention the $20 price tag for the console editions.

Maybe with capes or name changes, but probably nothing important.

Trust me when I say this, I am quite positive about Microsoft at the moment however I am concerned as there WILL need to be changes to Minecraft if Microsoft is going to get their money back. This means maybe a bit of advertising here, a paid cape here and maybe a few other things.

They will be leaving the Gameplay aspect of it the same, which is GREAT! I think that I may not have been clear enough when I said that the paid updates were just a possibility. Apperance and cosmetic is far more likely.

I am just a little worried like everyone else and have stated a possibility.

I don't think the money difference will be paid by DLC. This deal will benefit Microsoft for a couple of reasons.

_1) A portion of Minecraft's sales will be gained by Microsoft. This will only make up a small portion of the total revenue however...
_2) Advertising Opportunities! Minecraft in Halo, Limited Edition Minecraft Themed XBox ONE, Minecraft being used to advertise upcoming games, Advertisement Splashes ("Finish the Fight")
_3) Minecraft Merch! Microsoft will gain a lot of money from this - especially if they're smart and make Minecraft Crossover merch...
_4) Community support. They'll be bringing over a lot of fans (like us) to Microsofts bandwagon as they most likely add Xbox specific content and Windows specific content.
_5) Mojang Influence. They'll be able to use the Mojang team for other projects, benefit from new Mojang games, and also get ideas from Mojang's creative team and the community. I'm not seeing any other games with so many good (and bad) user ideas. This will give Microsoft an opportunity to bring this into their other games, and base their new games around pulling in this community.

Some really good points. Adverstising will be great as they could just replace that message on the main page of minecraft! Hmm with all of the things that Microsoft could do it may turn out to be mutually beneficial.

The splash is texture pack set. You could edit a texture pack to make it say anything you want.

That's a good point. I did not think about that! It will most likely be "Microsoft" with "Mojang" under it in small letters.

Nah... I can see a "Microsoft" subtitle on the Mojang screen though.
Like:

MOJANG
A Microsoft Company

Actually... saying that Mojang is "A Microsoft Company".... now thats a scary thought.

Mate, Microsoft in general is a scary thought! Let's just hope they earn that "A Microsoft Company" and do some good for Minecraft!

I hate imagining the "Copyright Microsoft Inc. Do not distribute!" at the bottom of the title screen

Mojang may still work there but \microsoft own it. They can do what ever they want as long as they hold the shares.

i would hate it if they did pated updates but i think it's very unlikely, as for cosmetics i would only like capes to b payed for rather than not having them at all but i would hate it to be the same 4 skins.

Yeah, I don't think that they would do paid updates but it was just a idea. It is a lot more likely that they will do capes. (which might not be so bad)
