The success of the o Youtubers Reviewedo blog series has encouraged me to write the third installment, AND HERE IT IS! You're reading it now...
In the unlikely event of you enjoying this, please check out the reviews of Skythekidrs and BlueXephos!
When Jordan Maron put an annoying o Zo instead of an o So at the end of the name o CaptainSparklezo and created his Youtube account, he probably didn't expect the phenomenal success about to leap on him. He probably didn't foresee his Minecraft-textured song parodies o Revengeo , o TNTo and o Fallen Kingdomo going viral and collectively gaining over 200,000 million views in just 2 years. o Minecraft Styleo (a gangnam-style parody) received coverage by NBC and the Daily Telegraph. He even got an exclusive panel at Minecon 2012.
Today he has raked in a jaw-dropping 800 million views, surpassing the total number of Minecraft players many times over. Therefore he was responsible for bringing most of the players to the game. Blame your addiction on him, everyone. HIM.
So technically, with the 4 most-watched Minecraft-related videos under his belt, he is a global internet sensation and by far the most popular MC Youtuber. But does he have the talent to justify this? Is he really that good?
If we take a closer look, things dono t quite add up. That he has just 4 million subscribers (well, I say o justo ) shows not many original viewers decided to stick around. Indeed, the 110 million viewers of 'Revenge' is hugely disproportionate to this figure. Recent scientific experiments (conducted by myself) reveal that around 1 in 3 people check out a Youtuber's videos after watching the one they click on. If we allow for 20 million viewers who are already subscribers (although he did get many subscribers just from this video,) then perhaps as many as 20-30 million people looked at his other videos and said, Simon Cowell-style, o Ito s a no from me.o
There must be a reason for this. Confusing statistics aside, ito s arguable that he was never a talented commentator anyway, and merely made the most of the surprising success of his parodies, which weren't even voiced by him. Maybe he benefited from being one of the first to publish Minecraft-style parodies, and got in on the YouTube scene o 3 years ago- when there was little competition as Minecraft was only just becoming popular. So perhaps he just had a good idea, a snazzy logo, and a lot of luck. But is he worth subscribing to?
Some videos are subdued, to say the least. Filming the 'Hunger Games' with That Guy Called Nick was not a good idea, and to say that o conversation didn't flowo is an understatement. Maybe, Captain, you should work with a guy like RageGamingVideos (a hugely underrated Youtuber) rather than someone with a voice that puts us all to sleep. And you should stop saying o dudeo so much.
Still, I wouldn't call Jordan himself boring. Certainly more relaxed than the average Youtuber, but some might prefer that. It's his maturity, lack of bad language and friendliness that make him stand out from the YouTube crowd, and it's this that must attract a great deal of viewers. Moreover, he comes across well in his vlogs, letting his likeability shine through while allowing female Minecrafters to drool over his pixelated face.
Some videos could use a little more banter, which is what we want to watch for anyway, isno t it? Perhaps he just needs to choose the right Youtubers to play with. Overall though, Sparklez does a good range of videos, uses visually impressive maps and has fun in most of them, which is enough for me. Although I wono t be watching all of his content, Io m definitely interested to see what comes next. For now, CaptainSparklez wono t be losing this subscriber.
Not that he would care anyway...but yeah.
Please diamond, favorite, subscribe and comment if you liked! Feel free to rant at me...
