Do you remember the thing that allows you to have create light while holding torch and some other items in Optifine?
This is the same thing, but without using Optifine.
1.17 gives us the light block, a useful and powerful way to create light.

Also, the actual 1.17 optifine is in beta and lots of features are missing.
