HEADS PLUS - MINECRAFT DATAPACK

By Chimerabot

Thanks for taking the time to look at my datapack! It adds a lot of useful features that I think add a lot to quality of life in Survival mode. It adds two new default crafting recipes and eight new custom crafting recipes, along with a number of other new features. These recipes seem balanced to me, but if you have any tips for making anything in this datapack more suitable for vanilla Survival gameplay, then just let me know in the comments section below.

Download Process
  • Download "heads-v1-1.zip" from this page.

  • Open Minecraft, and select the world you want to use the data pack in. Before you start up the world, click the "Edit" button, and then click the button in the editing menu titled "Open World Folder".

  • Unzip the .zip file you downloaded before, and put the folder inside it in the "datapacks" folder for your world.

  • Enter your world, type /reload in chat, and the data pack should start working.

  • Make sure the resource pack is loaded as well, in Minecraft's resource packs folder. You can open it through the options menu on the home screen.

The Head Crafter: This item is at the center of this datapack's functionality. Craft it with five iron, two iron bars, one item frame, and a player head (which is craftable with one of each of the four main heads). It can be used to craft Spawn Eggs that spawn passive mobs, and to craft mob masks which grant special abilities. More crafting recipes may be introduced in the future.

Display Mobs: Simply place any one of the four main heads on top of an armor stand, and it will convert itself into a display mob. These are essentially the standard mobs with no AI. Punch them to make them disappear and to get back both your armor stand and your mob head. Unfortunately, they still give you XP, and if anyone has an idea about how to fix that, then I'd be grateful for their advice.

Spawn Eggs: These items can be crafted in the Head Crafter with six each of the mob's respective material, two eggs, and one mob head (recipes shown above). They spawn passive mobs that won't hurt you, but otherwise act just like any other mob. They are single-use.

Mob Masks: These items can be crafted in the Head Crafter with four chains, two diamonds, two string, and the respective mob head (recipes above). They each grant their own separate special effect. While this may seem too overpowered for vanilla survival, I tried to make the recipes expensive enough and the effects weak enough that they are balanced decently well. And, of course, they look cool.

Loot Tables: Each mob has a 1/10 chance of dropping its respective mob head (by my calculations). This makes them farmable but not necessarily extremely easy to get. More naturally-dropping mob heads might be added in the future for more masks, display mobs, and spawn eggs.

Other Features: You can craft your own player head by smelting a normal player head in a furnace. Remember, a player head is crafted with one of each mob head. It won't give you the head until you exit the furnace's display.
If you have a normal mob head equipped (any mob head that isn't a mob mask), you will get a negative effect instead of a positive one. Zombie Heads give you Nausea, Skeleton Skulls give you Slowness, Creeper Heads give you Unluck, and Wither Skeleton Skulls give you Blindness.

Videos, Tutorials, Etc. That I've Used

Thanks again for checking out my datapack, and make sure to tell me about any glitches or errors in the comments section.
I'm also considering adding some more heads and items sometime in the future, so if you have any ideas for things that I could add, just comment with your suggestion.

(V1.1)

- Added negative effects when wearing mob heads without a specific tag. This encourages players to craft them into their mask counterparts.
- Added a Player Head recipe. Smelt a Player Head in a furnace to get your player skin's head.
