This datapack/server-side mod expands on gameplay involving sculk and the warden.

Warden

The warden now spreads a modest amount of sculk along the ground wherever it walks. This can sometimes include sculk sensors and even active sculk shriekers. If you're trying to contain a warden or bring one to the surface, be careful!

Additionally, wardens now swim faster in water and can't drown. Note that this does break drowning-based warden farms.

Recovery Compass

The recovery compass has an additional use while holding it: every 2 seconds, it emits soul particles that point in the direction of the nearest mob or player within 32 blocks of you.

Gameplay

  • Sculk veins are now climbable, making ancient cities even more interesting to navigate. Note that due to the way the climbable tag works, walking over a sculk vein that's on the floor will slow down your movement.
  • Sculk blocks, sculk catalysts, and reinforced deepslate now indefinitely burn with soul fire when lit. Looks great for builds!

Recipes

In addition, there are four new recipes:
  • You can craft four sculk veins into one sculk block, or vice versa.
  • You can smoke one sculk block into one sculk vein and some experience, providing a way to extract experience from sculk that can be automated, as opposed to breaking it by hand or with a hoe.
  • You can craft eight sculk blocks and one glass bottle into a bottle o' enchanting, providing a way of stockpiling them that doesn't require villager trading.

Hey I love the idea and data pack. I don't know much about data packs but is it possible to add new blocks to game with it? Like reinforced bone block for sculk, it would make deep dark better

That would be good, but unfortunately it's impossible for datapacks to add new blocks to the game. You'd have to find a mod for that.

Speaking of bones though, I have a More Fossils datapack/mod that lets fossils generate in every Overworld cave biome, with even more of them generating in the Deep Dark.

Yes it is. You can add some custom blocks using fiery and small armour stands(that have remodeled items on their head) and some commands and that's it!

1. I think Warden should spread sculk blocks only when it awakens and when it's killed, and the shriekers should not be active when summoned/placed by Warden.

2. Having a smoker turn one sculk block to a sculk vein is a waste of sculk and furnace fuel when it's possible to craft four sculk veins out of one sculk block and vice versa, unless it was meant to somewhat punish people who want to automate everything.

1. The warden spreading sculk as it walks theoretically allows for a sculk farm to be made that endlessly collects sculk blocks for experience using a name-tagged warden. It also makes the warden more fearful as it can spread sensors wherever it goes and will constantly corrupt the area wherever it goes. The shriekers being active is a side effect of how sculk charges in Minecraft's placed features work, which I can't change.

2. Sculk blocks normally drop 1 experience when broken, and sculk veins are now effectively 1/4th of a sculk block. The smoker recipe is not really for acquiring sculk veins - rather, smoking a sculk block gives 0.75 experience and 1 sculk vein, which is effectively the same reward as breaking it. The reason this is done is to provide a different method of extracting experience from sculk blocks that have already been picked up with silk touch that doesn't involve tediously placing them back down and breaking them again.

I see. Will there be an /gamerule -like setting where people can choose whether Wardens should place sculk blocks everywhere they stand or when they were awakened, and when the sculk shriekers placed by said Wardens should be the active or the inactive ones? Having Wardens take over an entire territory gives off the Scape and Run-tier difficulty which can prove to be beyond challenging in a not-so-fun way.

The most I can do for you is: if you enter the ZIP file for the datapack, you can disable the warden's sculk spreading entirely by going to data/sculk_expansions/functions/spread_sculk.mcfunction and adding a # symbol in front of the two lines that start with execute.

Very interesting to see it here. The climbable veins also fill the somewhat missing part of the existence of the city. Well done!
