Turrets - NightLight Series is currently in 1.1!
Turrets is my first datapack (and first ever) in a series of datapacks (dubbed NightLight) created for my applicable Minecraft server featuring all my datapacks. Most datapack will not be public and only members of the server will be able to experience much of the content I create.
This is not self-advertizing, I'm only letting people know why it's named NightLight Series as well as speaking directly to those of my server who will be viewing this pack.
Have you ever thought "Man, I really think it would be cool if I could have simple, automated, powerful defenses without causing so much lag and issues!"?
No? Well I'm so good I knew you wanted it even before you did!
Find a wandering trader, give him a heavy core and some emeralds, and you've got the best defense that the Emerald Defense Coalition can offer!
Or you can use /function dispenser_turret:give_turret
If you want to re-position a turret or store it easily, you can always punch it 3 times with any tool or hand to break it down and get your spawn-egg back!
You can additionally change turret modes by right-clicking a turret that's already placed.
The Emerald Defense Coalition is not responsible for any friendly fire incidents or collateral damages that may be cause by these tools. Any issues with how operations are held or handled must be taken directly to PuddleSpout and will be handled swiftly. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
This is my first public datapack ever, so do expect bugs and if you encounter any please report them in the comments and I will handle them as soon as I am available.
Additionaly, if you have any suggestions let me know as well.

Current Turret Modes
Normal
Simply fires high damaging projectiles at any enemies within range! Nothing too special about this one and it may not be the best for all situations, but it can certainly get the job done.
Minigun
This one has lower range, but it's very very fast with a high ammo capacity! And instead of dealing heaps of damage; this turret will deal slowness 5 for 10 seconds. Amazing for defense, but not the best for offense.
Additionally, this turret will prefer to shoot at enemies without slowness, so no need to worry! Even if there are no enemies without slowness it'll just keep shooting anyway!
1.1 Update - Will also prefer to fire at nearer targets. Making it MUCH MUCH better for defense.
Firework
This one is my personal favorite (but by a very small margin). It can fire bursts of big fireworks, that not only have a higher blast radius than normal fireworks, but also travel almost instantly! Depsite this turrets slow fire rate it still can clear hordes with relative ease.
1.1 Update - Prefers to target clusters of targets rather than individuals.
Flame
This is where it starts to get really advanced! The flame turret is somewhat similar to it's Firework counterpart. But instead of shooting fireworks in burst, this sentry will fire one big fireball that sets a large area on fire as well as any targets in the vicinity!
This turret is GREAT for chokepoint defense as well as defense in general, making it easily one of the best choices for defending against raids, or holding a point.
However, do be careful as this turret has been known to cause... unwanted damages.
1.1 Update - Prefers to target clusters of targets rather than individuals.
Mortar
By far the most powerful sentry we have to offer as it's capable of killing withers and wardens in just a few hits!
This sentry is embued with magic from our highest of mages, and when it spots an enemy with it's 100 block range it will fire a beam of magic into the sky, before lightning will strike the enemy where it stands, and will also cause a small area of effect that somewhat damages mobs around it. It can even target indoors and underground!
Despite being in the very early stages of this ones development it's still more than capable of handling offense as well as minor-defense.
1.1 Update - Can target 5 targets at once instead of 3, and also is unable to fire at targets that are underground.

Have something to say?
Getting a heavy core isn’t easy either, it takes at least an hour of dedication and a lot of luck just to get one. I do like the idea of enemies fighting the turrets, but if there are more than 5 enemies in the area of a turret, they can usually walk right past it anyway, which would make the turret kind of pointless if it was easily destroyed.
As for the wandering trader, I like keeping it as part of this system since I plan on improving it with other datapacks. I see them as high-ranking officials or weapon suppliers for both villagers and illagers, which is why I chose them. It just makes sense for the role they’re playing.
The turret doesn't need to be easily destroyed. You can give it the same or double the health of the iron golem (or more?), and you can even repair it with iron or copper ingots. Even if it is completely destroyed, part of it remains and you can fix it with an anvil or iron block.
The wandering trader who only sells natural items is now selling you an indestructible turret? I don't see how that makes sense. You could expand the villages with a turret forger's house or build a structure with a special villager selling that, or simply crafting recipe
The wandering trader sells exotic and rare goods that arent typically available in your area. Additionally wandering traders are not too common in most cases. A crafting recipe feels too basic and boring. A house or special villager is too complex for "simple turrets"
