APRIL FOOLS 2024

In 2024, our April Fools experiment was to see what would happen if every member was suddenly given "moderation" tools; would they legitimately try to moderate? Would the stress get to them? We also gave them a second option: they could "boost" submissions to the front page... theoretically. Would the gifts outweigh the desire to hurt their competitors? Let's find out!

In addition, all moderators were reverted to members, to give the appearance of true chaos: nobody was able to stop the members, and with the administrators taking a vacation in the Bahamas, is letting the members run wild truly a good idea?

ACTIONS BY NUMBERS

  • Actions
As it turns out, the members were quite generous! With a total of 1,408 deletions and 2,744 boosts, the community chose to help each other for a whopping 66% of actions!
  • By The Hour
The members sustained about 100-200 operations per hour for nearly the entire operation - until hour 14 (2 PM EST), when a few members awoke from their apparent slumber and decided to make their names known.
    DolphinCupcake Hairobrian37 RB22486 LimeSculkCraft7 Pirealta performed a whopping total of 214 actions on hour 14 (107, 43, 26, 19, 19 respectively)!

SUBJECTS BY NUMBERS

These three charts are mostly the same, but show different interesting trends in the content our newly-minted 'moderators' tried to handle. Maps were the overwhelmingly popular choice for any action - however, Mob Skins and Mods appeared to draw more deletions than boosts, the only two subjects that received this distinction.

FAVORITE CONTENT

Without further ado, here's the top 3 content in each category that the users really fixated on. An honorable mention goes to our own Silabear, who uploaded totally not a spam skin: a completely white skin with a single cyan pixel. The members surrounded it like piranhas, causing an outlier in our data reporting. For the sake of a more interesting list, we've removed the outlier caused by Moderator Meddling™.

NOTABLE "MODERATORS"

  • SirFluffyPuffs managed to perform the first 'moderator' action, at 12:00:55 am (EST)
  • stges managed to squeak in right at the end with the final action, at 11:59:54 pm (EST)
  • DolphinCupcake was the most active 'moderator', with a total of 1 deletions and 132 boosts, coming in at a combined 133 actions!.
  • Several members were very balanced in their decision-making, determined to keep equality, as is taught in Moderator School; they performed more than 1 action, but had an equal number of boosts to deletions! Aelle Butterd Black69nc VirusCott pastelbranches Some___1 Rainbow Slime Bigbuddy789 Greief beanieboy2007 Jilin BriklessPlan mvryumin AllergenX YumyWafflz MozmiX
  • 627 members were one-and-done; they performed a single action and clocked out for the day.
  • We received many private DMs and messages warning us about the "bug"; we weren't sure whether the joke would fool anybody, but it seems quite a few were legitimately concerned and reported it to us immediately - we thank you for acting so fast!
