thinkin bout sona lore, i think i might’ve actually gotten a solid idea that I like!! and like any good character backstory, it’s slightly messed up :D
i mean. the mismatched limbs always had mildly horrible implications if you stop to think about it for more than 5 seconds. spare legs dont grow on trees after all, they had to come from somewhere. or someone
your honor, my client would like to state… *leans over* are you sure? this might not- but i really dont see how this is going to help the case, i highly- *sigh* fine apologies, your honor. my client would like to state, “vehicular manslaughter, I barely know her”
This is basically how my mock trials went on the last day of school in civics a few years ago I still remember: "did you commit the crime to have a place to sleep? Jail perhaps?"
Fun Fact: The city of London experiences more crime every year than the entire surface of the sun, despite being roughly two trillion square miles smaller
im bored so im gonna explain how my sona's face works, for the very few non-furry normies here. idk if there is any confusion but i wanna clear it up anyway
Here's a quick sketch of a standard protogen, with zero effort put into the fleshy bits cause I'm focusing on the visor The most important thing to know here is that the visor isn't a mask. There's no face hidden underneath, it IS the face. Protogens are cybernetic creatures, all the synthetic bits are very much part of the body. A digital face is displayed over the visor to convey emotions and make communication easier, while the visor itself takes in sensory information.
This is Rust, without the visor covering. The visor is horribly damaged, highly sensitive, very fragile, and nonfunctional as a digital screen. To protect it, the visor is always covered by a custom-built metal shield. Technically it can be removed, but, don't. There's literally no reason to take it off (and doing so is painful). The visor is still able to take in sensory information through any exposed area, so the jaw and the little bit under the vent collectively act as the eyes, nose, and mouth. The shield does limit visibility slightly, but enough of the visor is exposed that this isn't really much of a problem.
It's also worth noting that protogen visors use nanite technology, which means a lot of sci-fi-y things, but the reason I bring it up is because it allows the visor to be reshaped and form a physical mouth that can actually open. The digitally displayed mouth looks cool and is great for communicating and all that, but it can't eat food. This one can. Rust can do this too, when there's a delicious car battery or uranium fuel rod that needs to be eaten. (the visor shield doesn't necessarily have to act as the upper jaw, but it looks better if it does) I'd also like to mention that, while protogens *can* use the physical mouth to talk (it comes down to personal preference), Rust doesn't. the voice just kinda emanates from the visor. i think its funnier like that
TL;DR, main takeaways I'm trying to get at here:
- the metal plate is covering up a damaged visor
- the visor IS the face, there's no organic eyes or whatever hidden anywhere
- protogens are supposed to have a digital face to show emotions, but my sona doesn't have one so the sticky note does that job instead
- the mouth exists and can open
oh yeah and the goggles are 100% useless, they are there solely for style.
