    New starts,
    Well isn't that fun.
    To “move on” or
    To “forget it all.”
    It's easier to say it,
    To say “forget it,”
    But I think it's funny..
    ..Of course it was one or two of them..
    But not all of them..


    How do you look at a person drowning,
    And complain the water is getting you wet???
    How?
    How do you watch someone sinking
    And tell them to swim?
    How do you call it “moving on”
    When they're still trapped within?


    This isn't a fairy-tale,
    This isn't some dream,
    This isn't “make it, and believe.”
    This is a world,
    This is “LIFE.”
    THIS IS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE,
    And trust me,
    It's not fucking nice.
    But you want me “better,”
    You want your daughter sunshine and rainbows,
    Not a fucking tide?
    Not waves that drag her down,
    Not storms that follow her around?


    But yeah!
    “New starts,”
    She says as she smokes one.
    “New starts,”
    I mumble as I walk
    Toward the shining blade,
    Like maybe its reflection
    Could wash the darkness away.


    “I love new starts,”
    I cry out alone in the night,
    But nothing about this
    Ever feels right.
    A colorful new start,
    Painted over the gray,
    A pretty little promise
    That tomorrow will change.


    New starts…..
    I say in my mind,
    But her eyes seem heavy,
    Her mind foggy.
    N-New starts……………
    She whispers again,
    Like if she says it enough,
    She'll finally believe it.


    The blade catches the moonlight,
    Cold against the room,
    And every little promise
    Seems to disappear too soon.
    “New starts,” she mutters,
    A phrase she can't defend,
    A beginning she wanted,
    But an ending she can't mend.


    The room grows quiet.
    The night carries on.
    The world doesn't notice
    When something is gone.
    No dramatic music,
    No angels, no sign,
    Just silence settling
    At the end of the night.


    And morning comes anyway.
    God, isn't that cruel?
    The sun keeps on shining
    Like it never knew.


    They call it a tragedy.
    They call it a shame.
    They whisper her name
    And then look away.


    But somewhere beneath
    All the words they say,
    Is the truth they ignored
    When she begged them to stay.


    “New starts…”
    She thought one last time,
    A phrase that once promised
    Everything would be fine.


    Maybe it wasn't a new start.
    Maybe it never could be.
    Maybe “moving on”
    Wasn't as simple as they made it seem.


    And that's the funniest part
    After all that she said,
    They wanted a new beginning,
    But she never got one instead.


    New starts…..
    Such a beautiful lie.
    Easy to say
    When you're not the one
    Trying to survive.

    You know what's awesome?
    When a group of characters needs someone to be bait for their plan.
    So obviously the already injured character volunteers and everyone is like "NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT!"
    But the hurt character brings up good arguments like, "if somebody else goes, you'll have one less person for the ambush, since I can't help anyway. Plus, I trust you guys to protect me, and it'll be worth the risk if we pull it off." And technically said character is the least important to the mission so they're right, but everyone else hates the idea because the character is important to them.

    But you know what's also awesome?
    A group of characters needs someone to be bait for their plan, and the obvious choice does NOT like the plan. The other characters love them, but they have to drag them kicking and screaming into their role because the stakes are THAT high.

    With either one you then have something go absolutely wrong, showing that even the right choices have high consequences. Maybe the bait ends up dying. Maybe in scenario a, they don't listen to their friend and aren't able to pull off the ambush without one extra guy. So! Many! Possibilities!
    It works in a lot of genres too.
