People talk trash about the fifth Star Trek movie, The Final Frontier, and there are many things to criticize about it, but honestly I think a lot of what it says about God and spirituality is quite profound.

There are many people who essentially exploit God as a means to an ends, often one that is selfish. Part of the inspiration behind the film was the rise of televangelists, many of whom could be seen as using God as part of their business model, promising God (or rather their version of God) as a magic wand that could take away all our faults instantaneously. William Shatner, being a man of Jewish heritage, set out to criticize this practice, saying that much of who we are is built upon our pain, our suffering, and that we can't simply wish that all away. Assuming there is a God or at least someone or something adjacent to a God, the created universe is not created the way it is so that we can receive everything from our armchair. Life is about exploration, trial and error, knowing our limits, learning from other people. God isn't so much "out there" as He (or perhaps a She or even a They, as a truly infinite being is beyond gender by any of our definitions, but for now I'll go off the traditional texts and use what appear to be His primary preferred pronouns) is "in here, the human heart". Of course, assuming there is a God who fits particular descriptions, then He is technically both "out there" and "in here", as He is omnipresent, in everything and everyone. We are finite, and our understanding of things will always be finite, but if we listen, if we explore, we learn that much more about each other, ourselves, the truth. That is the way of life.

Yeah uh I've been getting kind of weird and existential lately (maybe because the world sucks and everyone kinda hates each other or something) so that's why the pseudo-intellectual rambles and stuff. Some of this is probably better suited to an external blog site or something. Am I making sense? Am I full of s**t (for the sake of politeness I will have that censored, though I'm inclined to think we shouldn't attach superstitious value to mere words)? Am I kind of both? You can tell me. Or not. Up to you. I have no desire to control your decisions.

I think one of the most humble things you can do is admit you could be wrong
Not that you shouldn't try to stand by what you believe in, but that we are all fallible and ultimately have a very limited perception of truth
It is not possible for anyone to know the full truth, as we don't even know all that much about each other at the end of the day
We don't always even know ourselves
Some people talk about reason and faith (which includes not only the religious or spiritual kind but also the broader universal sense) as if they are opposed, but really I think one can't exist without the other
We can't accept things blindly based on nothing but "just trust me bro", so we must reason, but we also need faith in some basic principles of reality in order to reason, else we're stuck endlessly questioning everything and mining ourselves into some sort of existential crisis
Without reason, there is no faith, but without faith, there is no reason
These things need to exist in a balance of sorts
What we put our faith in, and by what principles we reason, is up to us
You should stand by what you believe, whatever it is, yet you should also be open to evolution of beliefs based on new experiences and information, as refusing to do so is a sign of arrogance
Humility comes from finding proper balance

viewflation is some bullcrap man like wdym i gotta look in advanced mode to know what my "real" views are? (i don't even know if i always trust the "engaged" views to be the "real" views since sometimes it shows results that are pretty clearly wrong according to other factors. doesn't help that the current youtube studio is a buggy ai-coded mess.)

that said, as far as i'm concerned, view systems were kind of flawed even before this since they were still susceptible to stuff like viewbotting and all that. we bank a lot on views and yet in the end is any of it even "real"?

After a random surge in motivation, Jelly the Not-Fish 1.4 (and then 1.4.1 to fix a minor bug) has been released TODAY across TIC-80, Newgrounds, and Codeberg!

In this update, I've added a new character, Shelly (the Not-Fish), who for the time being is more or less a player skin, but in future updates may have unique mechanics. In addition, I've also added a shield powerup which allows the player to survive the impact of one bomb. The ability for shields to spawn, as well as the character you play as, can be toggled in the options menu.

If you decide to try it out, feedback for what I can improve in future versions is appreciated (but not mandatory)!
