Just a lil update to say I’m scrapping the below project. I was losing interest in it and with new brushes, schematics and scripts, I’ve decided to make a different project instead. Much bigger, better layout and a lot more fantasy stuff.


I’ll also be making extensive use of the new Axiom mod to add a lot of details post-export. I’ve got a lot of ideas for this one…

New major project update.

Things are going well so far. I've made a fair amount of terrain and I'm still working on detailing. It takes me awhile to get anything done because I want to make sure everything works from a gameplay perspective (and that my forests aren't too taxing on PCs...)

So far most of the things I wanted to do will still be happening, but I won't be using Underilla to make an underground. It's a tricky program to figure out and I'm useless at figuring out server stuff. If anyone wants to generate an underground for me with it when I've finished, let me know!

I'm also probably going to skip floating islands. I don't want big shadows everywhere and I couldn't figure out a way nicely. I might make some unique glowing grass and trees that only appear under floating islands, as a sort of unique fantasy forest or woodland. But we'll see.

Hello Planet Minecraft!

The 1.20 update brought with it some really awesome new features and one in particular has a large impact on my resource packs. Armor trims represent a major change in the way that creators like me need to think about armor textures in Minecraft. I am committed to updating all of my packs to take advantage of this new feature, and I intend to create custom versions of the trims for my packs, but it's not going to be a quick process. To that end, I wanted to address this head on with my plan and roadmap for what updating to 1.20 might look like for the Grimdark Resource Pack collection.




Grimdark Tools, Dyes & Enchantments (JUNE) - complete!

Good news on this front! These packs won't require heavy lifting for 1.20 and my Grimdark Tools pack has already been updated! I'm going to try and get the Dyes and Enchantments updated later today as well.

Grimdark Samurai Pack (late JUNE) - complete!

My Samurai Pack is in pretty good shape since I recently gave it some love. I have already upscaled the default armor trims to match the resolution of my armor textures, so now it's just a matter of fine tuning the pixels so they line up well with my armor silhouettes. I expect to have this pack ready for 1.20 in the next week with a larger update to follow later this summer. Initially we'll use slightly tweaked versions of default trims, but eventually this pack will have samurai-themed trims.

Grimdark Viking Pack (early JULY) - complete!

My Viking Pack is in a very similar spot to the samurai pack with one major exception - I'm a little unsatisfied with the color palette I was using when I created it. In addition to all the trim work, I'd really like to fix the color palette issues. So, this one is going to take a little longer than samurai, but will follow a similar update pattern, basic trims in a couple weeks followed by more customized trims later this summer.

Grimdark Pirate Pack (late JULY) - in progress!

The Pirate Pack! I was just starting to work on a bigger update for this one when the 1.20 release date was announced. I am in the process of upgrading the tools to 24x to match my samurai and viking tool resolutions. Once completed I'll follow the same process for adding basic trims and then pirate-themed trims to the pack. I'm guessing this one isn't going to be ready for at least a month.

Grimdark Armor (JULY/AUGUST)

Here's where things get complicated. My Grimdark Armor textures are heavily themed and do not necessarily line up well, meaning armor trim patterns that work for one set, might not work for the next. I'm guessing that I can make use of variant trims, so samurai armor gets samurai trims etc, but that is adding another layer of complexity that will add more time to development. In addition, I was already planning to revisit the default Grimdark armor sets - the light, medium and heavy. This is a good time to do so, since I can tweak them to work better with armor trims and update the color palettes for consistency with newer textures, but that is going to require some time especially since there will need to be light, medium and heavy versions of each trim as well. I'm saving this for after the themed packs just because of that complexity - and the fact that I also want to include the themed armors as variants in this pack.

Grimdark Battlepack (AUGUST)

Finally, we've saved the best for last, my flagship Grimdark Battlepack. It only makes sense to tackle this last since it is meant to include all of my textures. Once all the armor and trims are ready to go, I'll put them all back together into the Battlepack.

Final Notes

I've begun working on my next major project! It will be my most ambitious project today as I intend to add:

• More post-export terrain editing to allow for more overhangs, tunnels and a more interesting world.
• Floating islands
• An extensive underground with handmade caves, tons of custom cave layers, entire surface biomes being underground and, if I can get it to work nicely, making use of Underilla
• A maximum height of 512 to allow for floating islands to truly have their own space in the sky, plus a minimum of two tall mountains
• Many more custom biomes, including reworked vanilla biomes and "repeat" biomes to take advantage of biome blending and make grass have a more varied colour range
• Custom builds by me

I also want to squish all of this into a 12k x 12k map somehow.

I'm not putting a timeframe on this as I've got tons of ideas to put into fruition, but I aim to have it finished by the end of the year.

Unlike my other projects, this map is currently being made for 1.19.2. If the mods I use are updated to 1.20 fairly quickly, then it'll be made for 1.20 instead. I really want those cherry trees...

I created my account in early January and started creating and posting my builds on this platform about a week ago and I have to say I'm absolutely blown away by the support I got. I'm immensely impressed by the amount of people that have seen my builds and decided to download them for free.

I wasn't planning on introducing myself since I thought nobody would be interested in my builds but due to the unexpected intrest here I am haha. So I go by the name Chocs on minecraft and I'm a student in university who plays on a private survival server with friends. Every build I create is a build to remake on the survival server. You understand that as a student I have rather limited time to play minecraft but I have enjoyed playing it since 2015 and continue to do so. Recently I got the idea to post most of my builds online that I create from this point forward. I do so with the idea to share them with other people so they can enjoy them and so I can learn from you all in the process to become a better builder myself.

In my early years I often went to PMC to download other peoples builds to learn from them and make my own creations based on their techniques. With that base I later managed to develop my own skills and found myself to be rather proud of my builds in the last year or so. My friends told me my builds were rather cool for an amateur player but nevertheless I preferred to remain my hardest critique. Today I feel like I have mastered the basics of medieval (fantasy) builds but that my builds are still very basic. Nevertheless I hope to inspire new builders to use my builds to learn how to build themselves and get down the basics of medieval (fantasy) builds.

Since I rebuild every build in survival, builds may come plenty as well as very slowly. However I will try and keep you all inspired with posting at least some builds regularly.

At the moment I am attempting a larger build in the same color pallet as my latest builds and I hope to finish it in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Until then builds may be limited in size due to limited time. I am doing my finals at the moment anyways so haha...

With that said I hope to see you all when I post my next builds!
