Bluesky, functionally, is closer to an older version of Twitter. But Twitter, since its new ownership, has been a hot flaming mess rolling downhill toward a landfill. In the past few years, theres been way more tolerance for harassment and extremist content, an algorithm driven by "AI", it allows art to be fed directly into generative image programs on site, a paid boost system, mass staff firings, and the removal of safety features

Google images are publicly visible! Not public domain. If you search that again on google, add the filter in images for "Public Domain". Your skins and art should NOT be showing up there. (But that is one way data is scraped for AI image training)

All skins you upload to any website, unless permission was granted otherwise, are your legal intellectual property. The sites are given permission to display the skins and users are allowed to use them for personal use, but permission ends there

I think that email works perfectly fine! It's polite and clear on your intentions, and you're totally allowed to send an email like that.

You can't get in trouble for asking a company to not use your art. Even as a minor, you still own the rights to the things you make. The only thing that changes because of it, is if they did take your art, a parent or guardian would need to help with anything legal (which you have NO expectation to do, dw).

Also unfortunately right now, the laws really haven't caught up to AI generation and how it works with IP, and we don't expect them to (at least not in the next four years). But it will be a digital record that shows you did not consent to your art being used. Which is definitely important right now since they refuse to disclose their sources. The more pressure we put on them and the more you know your rights, the more likely they are to cave!

that's what my immediate thought was too when i saw their message for the first time. like, is this publicly available dataset just pmc/skindex/namemc? weirdly, i think namemc might be the scummiest one they could take from (though they'd ALL be mega-scummy) - those are personal skins, not even posted w/ the intent for others to use them.

That's the most concerning part for me! They say they use a publicly available dataset, and per my research, I couldn't find one that wasn't scraped! So that's why I demanded comment from them on their sources. Because it's HIGHLY likely it was stolen off PMC, Skindex, or player data

I just believe that with that decision in the first place, moderation has failed on such an irredeemable, fundamental level that any effort at fighting it is pointless. Just throw the whole sub away at that point was my belief (which is why I'm still excited for your alternative :D). Kudos to you for fighting the good fight, I just don't have that fire in me to protest right now.

My best suggestion, go on the sub and say something about how Ai is hurting artists! I am talking to mods and they are unsure, since the sub is mostly people trying to get stuff for free and using Ai is used by the majority base. WHICH I said is not protecting the people who are the lifeblood of the sub. The more people are vocal, it seems like they're willing to change.

Yes unfortunately! I seemed to have accidentally tripped the automod by posting tutorials to the sub. It was banned for spamming, which I was in fact, not doing! I've sent a message to Reddit and still haven't heard anything. But I do have other Reddit related projects in the work and am now a helper over on r/MinecraftSkins making resources there!
